Nowhere Stream [Private Ustream Channel]

Postby nowhereman » Fri Jun 11, 2010 6:14 pm

Building a little on the SpillCam idea...

If you have the SpillCam channel installed, you don't have to do anything to get this channel. The next time your box syncs, the SpillCam channel will become the USTREAM channel.

If you have not installed the SpillCam channel, the code is IN4DN

I must admit, you fascinate me! You're like a wizard of random entertainment. I almost hate to ask, but is there any chance you could add one of the many penguin cams out there?

Dig the loading screens, with the big text and borderless green loading bar. Groovy!

Mr Nowherman..
Have you heard of Navi-x? this is a great user driven streaming network with ton's of user submitted content, however the only way to view content (movies, entertainment, etc) is to
1. use an x-box, or 2. install boxee software and use a navi-x plugin,or 3. access the portal via the Wii game console and the wii media player wiimc.

It would truely be awesome to have a private channel to allow navi-x streams to be viewable via the Roku. Would you consider looking into this? http://website.navi-x.org/
There is a working "preview" app here http://navix.turner3d.net/

Thanks for all the great work you have done so far. Also have you considered a video or some other type of multimedia tutorial on the basics of programing using the Roku SDK?

Unless I misunderstand, this looks like more of a portal than a content provider, just like the Roku DVP is a portal to online content. Some of the content is already on Roku.

I'm happy to do what I can to help other developers and content providers get their work onto the box, but a video of me writing code would be just about as riveting as the Barn Owl Cam. For anyone wanting to learn to program the box, the Roku SDK includes some example code that is a good place to start.

Unlike PodTV, this is not a curated channel. This initial version simply lists the most popular live streams at the time. Future versions may make things like this possible.

Can you make TWIT live a different channel? This would be a popular channel

Maybe I wasn't clear. This isn't a question of whether the stream is formatted for the Roku. The content in the channel is simply not curated. We can't do like PodTV where you pick and choose and I dutifully add random individual streams to the channel.

This channel is built around USTREAM's API and the initial version of the channel simply displays a list of the most popular live streams at the moment. That's not to say that there are not thousands of other streams on USTREAM that are playable on the box. It simply means that the channel does not yet have the functionality necessary to get to those streams.

As stated previously, future versions may have that ability.

I understand too. Leo has said that a live TWIT stream on Roku is coming. I guess we just have to be patient.

Patients is a virtue. I just pushed an update I think will be to your liking. As always, navigate to the Channel Store to sync your box.
