Google Voice

This one is just a proof of concept, there's a lot more to be done, but it's a start.

What it does now...

• Browse your Inbox, Voicemails, and SMS messages
• Play voicemail messages
• Display the last 4 messages of a given SMS conversation (3 if your box is in SD mode)
• Send SMS messages to conversation participants

What else I think we can make it do...

• Initiate calls to conversation participants
• Send SMS and initiate calls to any # (not just those associated with existing conversations)
• Display your missed, received, and placed call histories
• Play recorded conversations (I haven't used that feature of GV, so well see how possible it is)

The channel will ask for the email address and password for your Google Voice account. This information is stored in your box's registry in an encrypted form and all communication between the box and Google Voice is done over an encrypted link.

How do you know if you have correctly entered your Google username/password?? I entered only the first part of my userid (up to the @gmail) which works fine on the login page for Google Voice. The channel shows me the 3 icons (inbox, voicemail, text) but I only get 'RETRIEVING' (endlessly) when I click on any of them.

There's very little in my voice message box. I there a way to re-enter my login info??

I think you can remove the channel. Then re-add it.

Tried that! Apparently whatever is encrypted in the Roku memory stays there even if the channel is removed.

I entered my userID and pw and it kicked me back to the main screen and won't let me back into GV.

Edit: I just realized, I think I entered my PW wrong. I can't wait to try it.

One of the best ideas that i have seen for the Roku DVP so far! Add another point to nowhereman for the $10k. I live by GV, and to have it available on the TV is amazing.

Nowhereman - I did run into an issue though with sending an SMS back to someone (Reply with SMS if you will). I tried about 1/2 dozen times (from different items in my inbox,and i got error saying SMS failed. Regardless this is amazing. Keep up the great work!

I only sent a few txt's to test things last night, but they went through. I got laughed at by a couple of the recipients when they got "sending this from Roku" popping up on their phones.
