That's internet congestion for ya.
I wish it were that simple an explanation.
I just power cycled the Roku (2 XS) and my modem. Again, I have Verizon FIOS with 100 MPBS. The Roku is hard wired into it.
6:45 am Central, no congestion as no games are going on, and the only people awake in the US right now are on the east coast, and getting ready for work.
I jumped to inning four of the Cards-Reds game, away feed. The first minute or so is terrible. Skipping, stuttering, pixelation, full gray screen. When they come back from the commercial break, it's fine. No problems at all. So, it's not the internet congestion. It's something specific to the player the Roku employs in broadcasting the game. The feed is borked, and then it evens out. Unfortunately, I can't use the old player like one can on a computer.
I really just want to lay in bed, heal, and watch the baseball games I payed MLB a good deal of money to see.
Sigh again. It's maddening that they haven't fixed this yet. Stevie Wonder could have fixed the problem already.
