|
|
Hello all,
My current set-up:
Using the Roku HD (802.11B/G)
Verizon DSL 1.5 down and 384 up
using modem Westell VersaLink Model 327W
sending WiFi at 802.11b/g/g+ from basement to Roku player on 1st floor in house
currently I get between 2 & 3 on the dot meter
3 is acceptable but 2 is definitely not
My question:
If I buy the new HD-XR player (that supports 802.11N/B/G "dual-band"), will I need to upgrade my modem to one that will send a 802.11N/B/G "dual-band" signal?
If so, will the 802.11N/B/G "dual-band" give a better picture? I can't get a faster internet from Verizon right now...
Thank you all for any help!

1.5 down is too slow. You really need a faster internet connection to get better quality. Getting the XR model won't help you. Your internet connection is the cause of the problem not the speed of the wireless network. |

| If one were to buy a HD-XR, is there a trade-in for the current standard box most people are already using? That might help sales. |

Doubtful, very few consumer electronic companies offer upgrades to old products, why would you expect Roku to be any different? Sell the old one on eBay and get a new one, that is what I do. |

| Have you tried a temporary ethernet connection? If it gives you better quality perhaps you need to move your wireless router a bit or use a higher gain antenna. Worth a try, it won't cost you anything but time to move the Roku upstairs. |
