BrightAuthor Crashing on loading media folders

Postby portcolumbus » Wed Nov 04, 2009 11:15 am

Hey everyone. I work at a museum that just set up a monitor system in our lobby with a BrightSign HD110.

When I try create a new program in BrightAuthor (the company that set it up did the initial program, really just as a placeholder for whatever we put on it.), the program loads fine, but when I select the folder with the files I want to work with, it crashes.

This only seems to happen when there's an MPEG file in the folder. Deleting it and leaving only images or video formats the program won't recognize clears up the issue.

Any ideas on why having the only movie format the program recognizes makes it crash? Anyone else had this problem? I thought it might be a codec issue (and it may be), so I installed a new codec pack to make sure I was up to date, and it still happens.

Thanks,

Jon

What version of BrightAuthor do you have? And, how many files are in the folder you are browsing to?

I remember a very early beta crashing sometimes when browsing folders. What codec pack did you install?

I installed the K-lite codec pack. (After noticing the problem the 1st time)

Let's see, I'm using BA version 1.0.1.6 - the default install from the website.

The folder does not have many files. Maybe 8 images, 1 .mpg.

Can you send me the event log from the folder below after BA crashes...

You'll find it here: C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Roku, Inc\BrightAuthor\1.0.1.6.

Thanks for the response, and sorry I took so long to get back. It got nuts around here over the holidays, and this slipped my mind.

Here's the event log: Before, the only clip in the folder was the "reunions" clip, and the same thing happened. It seems to be whenever I load an MPEG. Image only folders load fine.

Please upgrade to the latest brightauthor. I'm curious if it's the mpeg folder or just one file in the folder it's having problems creating a thumbnail for.

I would uninstall the old BrightAuthor first, then install version 1.2.0.13 that's on the web, and test if it has the same failure.

Well, crashed again - but it faked me out this time, and looked like it would work for a minute.

Here's the log:

It seems to be the same file listed last, newlastditchclip_1. Can you remove that file from the folder, and test again?
