I just purchased a Pinnacle SoundBridge Radio R1000 for my Mum so she could get more than just BBC Asian Network via DAB. The unit is really nice with good sound and functions. Set up was a doddle and found quite a few asian internet stations(still looking to sort out sunrise and zee radio) amongst thousands of others. The FM and AM reception is pretty weak - I can't even get any AM stations. The mp3 playback via SD card is great. Haven't yet set up the PC streaming. Would have been nice to have:
1. Mute button
2. Record to SD
3. Pause, rewind etc
4. Bass/Treble/Tones set up

All in all though, a really nice piece of equipment - having browsed through a few forum topics I certainly hope the power supply problem won't be an issue. Love the way I can control the unit via PC, volume, station selection, presets and favorites Smile

Rolling Eyes Thank you Captain Pessimism.

Simba, first, welcome to the forums. Though overly dramatic the above reply has some truth in that there was an issue with the power supply in R1000 units prior to at least March 2008. There is a thread where a Roku employee states that the issue has been fixed, but I don't know if this applies to Pinnacle versions of the hardware.

On your list you of wanted features you list "pause"—does your remote not have a "pause" button? It should be second from the bottom on the left side as you're holding the remote (mine is, at least!). This also functions as a mute button: you can hit the "pause" button to mute the sound on standard and internet radio.

Hope this helps!

Well, the feared scenario has happened - my radio has passed on to the other side and is DEAD!!! It was working fine to date but tonight I noticed it had no lights and won't switch on.

AAAAAARRRRRRGGGHHHHHH.................

Simba,

time to contact Pete (forum user gopkh) by sending a PM via his profile or an email to hillyp01-roku@yahoo.co.uk. He's a very experienced specialist in repairing these crappy PSUs.

Greetings
dupondt

Cheers - I saw Pete's helped quite a few people and brought their SBR's back to life. I was just wondering whether Pinnacle would replace my dead SBR with a new one under warranty - my user guide says I've got a 1 yr warranty yet many others on this forum mention 2 years. Any clarifications on the warranty issue? My SBR has a Pinnacle logo BTW.

Thanks.

Hello Simba

Sorry to hear your SBR has finally failed.

There is much confusion regarding the warranty.

True, Roku have extended warranty for SBR's to 2 years. However the units need to be returned to the US for service.

I also believe that Pinnacle are honouring a 2 year warranty now. But I am fairly sure (unless I missed something recently) that they are only swapping out units.

There are one or two very unlucky folk who have received replacements which have either only lasted a few days, or had other faults to boot.
MikeKK springs to mind.

I can rebuild your PSU for you, and have sent details via PM.

Regards

Pete

I'm currently hoping to get a new replacement from Pinnacle. I've got an RMA number and an address in Germany to send the unit back to. I did email Roku support and got a Case ID but no more. I must say, it seems a bit of a silly idea to put the PSU inside the unit when you could very easily have an external PSU plug in unit - simply points to bad design.

BTW, Pete did contact me and outlined the steps to get a repair carried out. At the moment though if I can get a replacement from Pinnacle then I'll try that route and use the warranty.
