Comptaible Universal Remote?

Postby bryanhope » Fri Nov 06, 2009 8:20 pm

Hello,

I cant find my remote so the netflix player is basically useless now, has anyone tried to use a universal remote or does anyone know if a universal remote will work with the netflix player.

I would just buy another remote but they are out of stock and I can't find anyone who stocks them.

Thanks

The Logitech Harmony remotes work great.

Also any learning remote will work, but you'd need a working remote to train it.

If you have a iphone or ipod touch, there is an app that works as a remote (over wifi).

So far as I am aware, none of the non-learning universal remotes yet have a built in code set for the DVP. Some of the OFA remotes can get a new device code over the phone. There is the JP1 route, too, but that has a learning curve to it.

You could order a box as a gift to someone for christmas and 'borrow' that remote to learn to a learning remote. Or you could find a friend with a Harmony and learn from that.

Edit: It does look like some remotes might have codes that work but YMMV.

It appears the URC UR5U-8700L has a Roku "media PC" code and is available for $20 shipped here. No promises though.
.
I think it has been discontinued by URC. Their R7 for $40 at BB doesn't list a code.

But $500 for a remote seems a less good option than a new box!

URC MX-900

I have a URC MX-900 and the Netflix player is listed in the MX Editor database.

I added it to my remote and it works great.

An expensive remote but worth every penny. They can be found at discounted prices if you know where to look.

The URC RF20 works fine with the Roku, and its learn mode can learn the small number of Roku buttons quite quickly.

Edit: Never mind, without the original remote you'd have to look up the codes, as the prior poster indicated. I didn't do it that way, so I can't comment on that.
