I've looked through these forums a good bit, but can't find any helpful info for my problem. I just got the Roku DVP (HD) and it's hooked up. During setup, the DVP connects to my wireless network fine, but then it always says it can't connect to my local network. I'm not even sure what that means.

I have a Dynex Wireless Enhanced G Router, Model # DX-WEGRTR, Ver 1011

I've never had any problems with any other devices connecting to my home wireless network. My laptop and Wii connect wirelessly every time. Like I said, though, the DVP is connecting to the wireless network. Just not sure what the "local network" is and how I can connect to it.

Please help if you can. I'm ready to watch some Netflix!

Are you running a firewall? If so, try with the firewall disabled.

I turned Windows Firewall off and tried again, but got the same result - can't connect to local network.

Not sure if this is helpful, but just for curiosity, I tried connecting to another unprotected wireless network that it found during the network search. It connected to that wireless network, then connected to that local network, then connected to the internet. Curious how it could connect to someone else's local network, but not my own.

Any other ideas?

What is the model number of your router. These types of things are router settings a LOT of the time. There are certain routers where some settings need to be disabled etc.

What type of security key is your router using?

Dynex Wireless Enhanced G Router, Model # DX-WEGRTR, Ver 1011

DSL Router is westell C90-630030-06

dnelms, I don't know what you mean by "security key".

I've looked at and tried adjusting some of the settings on the Dynex wireless router, but there are SO many different screens and settings there and I really don't have a clue as to what most of it means

When you try to connect thru the Roku, does it ever get to the screen where it asks you your password for your network?

I use WPA/WPA2 mixedmode-PSK security on mine. I know it works, but I have mine setup as wired.

Go into your router settings and find out what you are using to secure your network (assuming your did).

Ha! I'm connected and streaming now.

When I opened up my router settings to check that security info, I noticed it listed "firewall = on" even though I had my Windows Firewall turned off. When I clicked the firewall settings I realized that it was a separate firewall on the router itself - not the Windows Firewall for the computer - so I turned the firewall off and the Roku connected no problem.

Thanks for your help. I'd never have figured out to check the firewall on my own.
