justin.tv?

Postby wendyshinyo » Mon May 03, 2010 6:26 am

I apologize in advance if this is a dumb question or a been-there-done-that repeat, but is there a way to watch streaming feeds from justin.tv through a Roku public or private channel?

I actually use to use J-TV a lot before I got my Roku......kinda stopped using it since however.

As far as I know, nothing exists currently to provide an interface between the Roku and J-TV but I believe it would be possible, J-TV does make the API freely available and it does reference Python which I believe is the language in which the Roku instructions are written. At any rate, even if I did have the time, it is well beyond my technical ability....perhaps one of the developers around here would find it an interesting project......if it is technically possible.

Thanks for the reply - your link helped my see that it may not be possible. The stream portion is Flash based and Roku can't do Flash. I was only remotely interested as a way to stream live MSNBC through Roku.

I wouldn't be so quick to make that determination.....I think saying "Roku can't do Flash" is an oversimplification as "Flash" is just a container. It's the content in the container that may or may not cause problems.....at any rate, this stuff is all way too technical for me I just know it's not as simple as saying "Roku can't do Flash". And besides that, if it's available via ITunes, I don't think it's Flash based....

once again, questions for someone much nerdier than I........

It would be great. And, yes, questions for the premier developer geeks on the list. I use geek with a connotation of utmost respect and admiration!

I have created a suggestion ticket on the justin.tv suggestion forum.

The link is at http://justintv.uservoice.com/forums/17 ... r-channel-

Please follow the link to vote. I know folks have mentioned reaching out to Justin.tv in this thread. This is another grassroots approach for Roku users to be heard by Justin.tv.

Thanks!

This is a 2 1/2 year old thread, started before the JustinTV channel was developed.

No, just the last half of 2010 and all of 2011
