Is the upconverting of the XD & XD|S worth it?

While 1080P streaming is very slowly coming....

Since the XD & XD|S offer 1080P. Does it improve the image of 480P & 720P by upconverting at all? You notice any improvement?

Does the upconverting on the HD model to 720P on 480P content produce a noticeable difference to you?

I too wonder.

At present, I have the Roku XR which is supposed to get the 1080p update eventually.
Since I have a 1080p monitor and like the 720p offerings from Netflix and Amazon, my
Roku XR is set to 720p. But, my monitor then upconverts 720p to 1080p. So every 480i
and 480p thing I watch is upconverted twice. Once in the Roku XR and once on the
monitor.

Would having the Roku do all the up-converting be better for picture quality?

For now, 720p looks great even with the monitor doing 720p to 1080p upconverting.

It's my understanding that the XD & XDS do not do any upconverting of content to 1080p. Only 1080p videos are displayed in 1080p, the interface and all other videos are still in 720p.
