Minimum download speed requirement

Postby Skip » Sat Dec 18, 2010 10:38 am

I live out in the country and have "low speed dsl" however I'm not complaining because it's significantly faster than dial up or satellite. Our service provider is AT&T and I've tested the speed with Speakeasy Speed test. I'm getting 2.57Mbps download and .41 Mbps upload. I haven't ordered Roku yet but tell me if I can expect it to work with Netflix at this speed.
Thanks for your help!

For the best viewing results with archived games, we recommend a minimum of 2.0 Mbps. For live games, we recommend 3.0 Mbps.

You will be fine for SD quality, but HD won't happen.

I'm glad to find you guys here. I have similar problems. Just got the XDS and good installation. I tested my connections with Ethernet wired and it was 11.42 down and 1.45 up. Could this be the reason I can only get 480p on Netflix & Hulu? My set-up is wired Ethernet into Roku, HDMI & Optical cable to Onkyo TS-5O5E A/V receiver, HDMI to Panasonic TH-46PZ80U. I get 1080i thru my TV antenna and 1080P from Panasonic BR player. the Roku is great but I'm still very new to this video world and appreciate any help.

Sounds to me you need to go into the roku settings and set the display to HDTV.

Same situation here. 3Mbps DSL is the fastest I can get. It actually measures between 2.4 and 3.2, depending on which way the wind is blowing I guess. It usually works just fine for the Roku. Good quality SD almost all the time and, when the stars align, HD once in a while.

That fixed it! I have 720P on all the Netflix and Hulu so far. Replaced cable for $19 month. Thanks TexGuy.
