XFinity TV on Roku?

Postby MrMaddness » Tue Mar 15, 2011 6:49 am

Hey guys,

I just noticed that XFinity (Comcast) now streams to iPad users. Is there anyway us Comcast customers could get this on our Rokus?

This might be a dumb question but wouldn't you already have access to it on your TV? Why would you want to push it through the Roku?

Perhaps when they travel they would like to take it along with them. There might also be an "on demand" feature they don't get with regular cable. I'm only speculating though.

Not just for when I'm traveling, but maybe for on TVs that don't have a box that gets on demand programming? Also, if they make it anything like the new time-warner app, they might be adding live stuff to it as well. What I would REALLY like is Fancast, because thats basically free Hulu for Comcast subscribers.

I was under the impression (from Dave Zatz' site) that this was in-home only, at least initially.

I can see it being useful to put it on a tv that doesn't have easy cable access. Out in the garage, in the basement, spare room, etc.

I'm not sure what content is available from Comcasts streaming service nor what their STB prices are, but $99 one time is going to be cheaper than $5-$10/month for an STB in the long run. If these in-home streaming services have reasonable content, I could see a roku being a decent replacement for the cable STB. That is until the cable company catches on and starts blocking rokus ;)
