Thanks for
http://www.thecontemplation.com link, but it's a bit outdated I think. Some of them like startrek don't seem to work.
I'm really surprised there isn't a lot more 'private' things up there. I come to roku from the wide world of Free-to-air TV viewing a couple of years ago. There's literally thousands of things up there in the air on satellites unencrypted, and a lot of people capture that stuff on their dvb recorders and things, all of which can stream to their local home network.
I figured that sort of technology would be out here in the wild on roku... I kinda miss the days of watching the today show without any commercials and seeing the news people sitting there before 'on air' time doing up their hair and makeup, talking to coworkers, etc. Also miss the oddball stuff up there like Cubavision,Tele Rebelde and SuperChannel (Superchannel, if that's what it's called went off the air about a year and a half ago), cuban channels that showed English movies late at night with spanish subtitles, etc. You'd think Cuba wouldn't need to rely on the U.S. for their entertainment purposes, but that's exactly what they do.
I had to give up my fta equipment when we recently moved in to an apartment. I know I could put it up because of otard, but don't really have a 'commons area' tied directly to the apartment like a balcony to do that at the moment.
It'd be nice if Roku would team up with an FTA satellite receiver company like Pansat or someone and create a super fta box that could get everything the roku does + all the fta stuff too! Make it even better and put a dual tuner in there so that you can record one station on a hard drive and watch another fta station at the same time, and I think you'd see an enormous amount of sales. Add in an ATSC tuner for OTA signals, and maybe a blueray player to boot, and I suspect you'd have the best device on the market, of course then sales would drop a lot since price would have to go up a lot, but maybe not if it was just like a 'deluxe' version of the Roku or something like that...
I guess it's something others have thought of before, lol
