'Private Channel' Codes?

Postby mastermesh » Mon Jun 27, 2011 9:49 am

I've checked several places online for Private Channel codes and have found a lot of them (see link in sig), but am always looking for more since there might be something else that interests me more than the channels I have so far. Anyone compiled a list that has all of the codes out there yet?

Catastrophe Girls list over at http://www.catastrophegirl.com/rokuchannellist.htm has several that are listed as

how to add: unknown

Does anyone know those codes that are 'unknown' also does anyone have a list of all the official codes for the channels in the channel store since some of those channels might not be in the store forever, but I'm guessing that if you add them as a private channel with the code they might stick around?!?

I wonder if distributing lists of private channel codes would qualify for that Tennessee thing?

Awesome list. Thanks!

Here are a few that I've bookmarked:

http://www.thecontemplation.com/index.p ... -channels/

I'd also like info on the unknown codes.

Thanks for http://www.thecontemplation.com link, but it's a bit outdated I think. Some of them like startrek don't seem to work.

I'm really surprised there isn't a lot more 'private' things up there. I come to roku from the wide world of Free-to-air TV viewing a couple of years ago. There's literally thousands of things up there in the air on satellites unencrypted, and a lot of people capture that stuff on their dvb recorders and things, all of which can stream to their local home network.

I figured that sort of technology would be out here in the wild on roku... I kinda miss the days of watching the today show without any commercials and seeing the news people sitting there before 'on air' time doing up their hair and makeup, talking to coworkers, etc. Also miss the oddball stuff up there like Cubavision,Tele Rebelde and SuperChannel (Superchannel, if that's what it's called went off the air about a year and a half ago), cuban channels that showed English movies late at night with spanish subtitles, etc. You'd think Cuba wouldn't need to rely on the U.S. for their entertainment purposes, but that's exactly what they do.

I had to give up my fta equipment when we recently moved in to an apartment. I know I could put it up because of otard, but don't really have a 'commons area' tied directly to the apartment like a balcony to do that at the moment.

It'd be nice if Roku would team up with an FTA satellite receiver company like Pansat or someone and create a super fta box that could get everything the roku does + all the fta stuff too! Make it even better and put a dual tuner in there so that you can record one station on a hard drive and watch another fta station at the same time, and I think you'd see an enormous amount of sales. Add in an ATSC tuner for OTA signals, and maybe a blueray player to boot, and I suspect you'd have the best device on the market, of course then sales would drop a lot since price would have to go up a lot, but maybe not if it was just like a 'deluxe' version of the Roku or something like that...

I guess it's something others have thought of before, lol viewtopic.php?f=11&t=2614

;) :)

yes! please! i'll take all the info i can get. those 'unknowns' are channels i saw listed other places and people have reported that they have - but i don't have info on how to add them.

i try to update that list every week or so and verify the codes i have a couple of times a month. it started as a document for a couple of non technically savvy friends and a friend's parents who got very confused by the outdated information they found by googling for private channel codes.

i'd be thrilled to get more up to date information from anyone who has it.

LaLa, thanks for the list from thecontemplation - i hadn't seen that one. unfortunately it suffers from the same problem as the roku channel database [top link you provided] - it's where a lot of those unknowns come from. like "sun tv" and "silver bird" - they keep turning up on lists, there's no code, no website and they aren't in the channel store. but i keep seeing comments or posts around the internet from unverifiable or uncontactable sources who swear they have the channel - i just can't find out how.

i've been contemplating taking them off my list completely until i can verify them, but i keep hoping someone will get back to me on here or FB with the info after seeing it on my list.

Maybe because they are private? I'm sure if you asked who designed the channel they would provide the code...

i'd love to ask the channel developers for information - if i knew who those people were. all of my information is gotten from other published lists or from these forums/forum users. the 'unknown' channels didn't get added to my list until i saw them on at least three other places. but i suspect it's just the same bad/outdated information going around. which is part of why i test all the channel codes i do have every couple of weeks. every time, i end up removing at least one code that no longer works [and the channel didn't get moved to the channel store] to the 'dead codes' section at the bottom of the list.
