Rku 2 XS does not recognize USB HD

I just got my RUKU 2 XS and tried to connect my WD 2.5 TB USB HD (external power)
The drive is formatted NTFS. No partitions (yet)
So far I only have a few .m4v files on it and it works fine on the PC.

The usb media channel tells me:
"No USB drive found"
"Be sure your USB drive is plugged into the USB port of your Roku player"

I tried rebooting the Roku with the drive connected but it made no difference.
I have not seen anything regarding hard drive size limitations.
So what am I missing?

Roku can only read partitions up to 2TB, your hard drive is probably one partition of 2.5tb so that's the issue. In order to use it with Roku you'd need to split the volume up with two (or more) partitions of less than 2TB.

I wondered about the partition size. But my 8 year old XP box recognized the entire drive so I thought the newest Roku would not have a problem.
This info is not in the Roku online specs (that I read) nor the unit packaging and I could not find anything here.
Where did you find this info?

It's been posted here by Netflix support before.. Just split up the drive and you should be fine.

I partitioned the HD into two, 1 TB drives.
One is primary, the other extended.
The HD works fine on my PC.
But I still get the exact same error from the ROKU 2 XS as before.
"No USB drive found"

Just got off the phone with a Roku tech and was informed that the maximum Hard Drive capacity that the Roku 2XS will recognize is 16GB. 0.016 TB.
That's not a Hard Drive, that's a USB stick.
Can that be right?
Where did the maximum 2TB info previously posted come from?
Can anyone tell me what I have to do to get a WD Elements 2.5 TB USB HD (partitioned into two 1.25 drives) to work with the Roku 2 XS?
Someone from Roku want to weigh in on this?

I have a 2 TB HD hooked to mine and it works just fine. I suspect the tech was referring to the maximum size of the Micro SD card that the Roku2 will accept.

I included "Roku 2 XS" in my search queries .. and came up way short, anyhow ....
what I get from your referenced posts is that the Roku will only recognize drives of max capacity of 2.0 TB regardless of partition sizes.
I wonder if the WD TV Live Plus 1080p HD Media Player would do any better ...

How the tech went from talking about hard disk capacity and compatibility to SD memory cards is beyond me at the moment

The Wd Live Plus I believe is topped at 3TB but there have been issues with large drives there as well on those forums I've seen
