How do we stream ESPN3 from our PC to our HDTV without adding a subscription?

Well you don't use a Roku. ESPN3 does not have a ch on Roku but you can contact ESPN and ask them for a ch.

There is a third party ch that allows streaming ESPN3 but it is not supported by Rpku and you still must have an ESPN3 subscription. Several ISPs give free access with your internet.

For me I just hook up a PC to the PC input on my TV and watch to my heart's content.

I'm going to try to respond in a way that won't get this thread locked. Which means I won't mention an unsupported third-party app, which some use to play content on their TV.

Using a Roku, you can't.

But... assuming you can watch ESPN3 on your PC already, then you can, today, then hook your TV up as a monitor to that PC. If you have an HDMI port on your PC, then you're ahead of the game. If not, you'll need to have a PC monitor input on your TV, and you'll need to feed audio from your PC to that same input.

Or, you can use your Xbox 360 with a Live Gold Account (there's that subscription you didn't want) and use the ESPN app.

But, with a Roku? No.

To the best of my knowledge ESPN has an exclusive contract for the Xbox 360 to be the only device other than a computer permitted to legally stream ESPN3 to a TV.

Huh. I had picked up somewhere that ESPN was blocking Google TV. So, you can confirm that you've used Google TV to watch ESPN3 recently?

Yes, I watch it every night

It was not being blocked. Google TV flash software was not compatible with ESPN3 but that changed earlier this year with the Honeycomb update.

West Ham, what Google TV are you using? It won't stream on mine via the Logitech Revue. It did for a short while after the Honeycomb update but hasn't streamed for me anytime recently.

The earlier wording should probably be changed, but I believe Google TV streams ESPN3 via its web browser & flash and not via an "app". In essence it is acting more like a computer then a "connected device". For the end user the difference is merely semantic, but from the licensing perspective it is significant.

Thanks, West Ham. I'm going get my Revue out of the closet and dust it off and see if ESPN3 will come through now. I just got a new Linksys EA4500 router and everything is working so much better now so it should work. I put the Revue in the closet about a month ago when I got a third Roku box.

I see that ESPN3 is listed on the playon.tv site as a supported channel, but is it actually supported by the Roku box?

Keep in mind I have an old school CRT tv (so no HDMI connection). I guess my option might have to get the xbox 360 or logitech revue. Does the Revue only connect to newer tv's with HDMI, or also old TV's like mine with the yellow white and red AV cable?

Thank you.

Trekkeriii is correct. Further discussion of PlayOn would not be ... Advisable

My ISP provides free access to ESPN3 over my DSL. I use Plex on Roku to get it from my PC to the TV.
