Slingbox to Roku 2 to TV in another city

Postby Peripatos » Sat Jul 14, 2012 9:06 pm

Is it possible to use the Roku 2 to output to a TV what my slingbox HD is sending from my other house?

Slingbox would need to make a channel for Roku. There's no way this would work otherwise.

I have the WDTV and the Slingbox App is almost useless as it is so buggy. It will often start with no sound, it takes at least 10 seconds to change channels and more often than not locks up when you try it.

I wish Roku would come up with an app as I am in the UK for a while visiting family and like to watch my Slingbox back home in the US. I gave up on the WDTV so for the most part use my PC.

I still have two Slingcatchers that Sling discontinued a few years ago. Sling never updated the firmware so they don't connect to the newer Sling Pro-HD, only to my older models.

Sling charges $29 to purchase Android software (and you need a separate program for Tablets vs phones). I doubt Sling wants to give up that revenue stream so I would not expect them to readily give Roku users a free access. If Sling does allow Roku to develop a channel, expect to pay $29.

I've used the Slingcatcher with my PRO HD with no issues.

And the Google TV and WDTV channels are, in fact, free.

Plex does not. XBMC has one, but it only works with older Slingboxes, because the newer models are encrypted for anything above 320x240.
