difference between LT and HD

Postby sugarcubed » Sat Aug 25, 2012 9:24 am

I need a new roku box & wondering really what the difference is between the LT and the HD - the specs seem the same except for color and price & remote. Networking, video/audio outputs & modes seem to be the same. My tv is a samsung that, i believe, is 720p so buying a device that plays 1080p would be a waste for me - i believe. The only reason I would should even consider going up to Roku 2 XD would be for the power consumption I would think. Can anyone point out the difference?

Thx mark

I have both, and there is no functional difference between the two. I'm not sure if there are hardware differences between the two or not, but in daily use they are the same to me. I prefer to small purple band on the HD compared to the all purple of the LT from an cosmetic point of view, but that's irrelevant.

Save the $10 and get an LT.

The HD has the same, faster CPU and accelerated graphics that the XD and XS use. The LT has more limited potential capabilities.

I have a 2400X version of the LT so that may be why I don't see any appreciable difference in performance between the two. I may get a newer version of the LT to see if it suffers with the slower processor.

I think the difference will show up more with future "enhancements" to the upper models.

channels that only work on roku2 models will not work on the LT, from what i understand based on other posts in the forum. this won't affect many channels, but it will affect some. and not just games

The new LT has a different chip set and won't play some games, a firmware upgrade will be needed to fix this issue.

Thanks for this doc. I do see that the cpu is different in the LT vs the other models. for the extra $10 do you think its worth going up a model from the LT though?

That chart doesn't list the 2500R I've seen in Walmart. It's an HD that I believe has the same CPU as the newer LTs. I have no idea what the difference is between this HD and the LT.

This seems to be one difference.

It depends on which models you are comparing. In short, the only difference between the latest models is the color and the remote.

Roku LT 2400X (original)
    ARM 600 MHz CPU
New style remote w/ shortcut buttons
    No Micro SD Slot
Smaller size due to not having full size RCA
    Purple w/ black

Roku 2 HD 3000X (retired)
    ARM 600 MHz CPU
    Old style remote
    Micro SD Slot
Smaller size due to not having full size RCA
    Black

Roku LT 2450X (revised model - retired)
    MIPS 400 MHz CPU
New style remote w/ shortcut buttons
    No Micro SD Slot
Smaller size due to not having full size RCA
    Purple w/ black

Roku LT 2450D (revised model)
    MIPS 400 MHz CPU
    Old style remote
    No Micro SD Slot
Larger in size to accommodate full size RCA plugs
    Purple w/ black

Roku HD 2500R
    MIPS 400 MHz CPU
New style remote w/ shortcut buttons
    No Mirco SD Slot
Larger in size to accommodate full size RCA plugs
    Black w/ purple

I just put my order in for the HD.
Using this guide: http://sdkdocs.roku.com/display/RokuSDK ... ndFeatures
I thought I was buying the HD because of the faster processor. Im spending an extra $10 for a black box vs a purple box?

The document you were looking at says the "Roku 2 HD" has the 600 MHz CPU, it doesn't say "Roku HD". In short, yes you paid $10 more for the newer remote control and a different color scheme. One thing to keep in mind, just because the old CPU was 600 MHz and the current one is 400 MHz doesn't mean that it is 1/3 slower. One is ARM and one is MIPS, two totally different types of architecture - each has their own pros/cons.

If you want you could cancel your order from roku.com and order the "old" LT from amazon with the newer remote for $51 shipped.

And the LT model that Amazon currently shows is the 2400R with new remote.
