Plex and the Roku HD (2500x) box

Postby Floyd R. Turbo » Tue Mar 19, 2013 12:21 pm

Hi,
I recently acquired a Roku HD box to replace the "original" Roku box that
I've had since early 2009. I've been testing it out and it seems to work well.
The one problem I've had is that if I try and stream movies from my MacMini to
the Roku box via Plex, I get intermittent drop-outs. Sometimes the audio will drop out and
then come back a split-second later. Sometimes the video drops out and, the screen
goes blank, and then the video comes back. All movies I have on the MacMini
were created via "handbrake". The "original" Roku box that I have seems to not have this
problem. Has anyone else seen this with the Roku HD box and Plex?
Any known work-arounds?
I googled this problem and saw a few folks had problems with Plex and the
Roku HD but it was hard to tell what exactly they were seeing.
Thanks,
Floyd

Could it be your video is going in and out physically? like because of your input source, hdmi or your tv itself.

I have 2 roku HD's in the house, 2 different tv's. 1 tv no issue, the 2nd, cheaper model type hdtv, it will flicker the picture when it's trying to "load" video as it's playing. It's like the tv sense a signal loss/black screen and the tv will flicker a couple times and come right back. It usually only happens when first starting a video, or on certain videos online.

Not sure if that's what you're saying or not.

Hi,
Nope, it doesn't flicker. The image disappears and the screen turns black for
about 0.5 seconds.
This happens through out the movie. Depending on the movie, it might happen
once a minute.
The TV and HDMI cable are the same TV/Cable that the original Roku box was plugged into.
The original Roku box didn't see this problem with Plex.
The TV is an LG plasma screen. It has previously never had any problems with HDMI.
The Roku HD box seems to work fine with every other channel (not that I've done
extensive testing).

I have the same issue with the Roku 2 HD. Only when playing movies. No problem with tv (other than some buffering issues). All my files are encoded using handbrake to M4v. The audio and video drop to a blank screen with an audible pop then resumes. This happens every 60 to 90 seconds. The exact same file will play with no problems on the same tv through my Apple TV 2.
