i've had a Samsung smart TV for just over 6 months - it's had umpteen more updates, and the addition of several decent apps, than the Roku box has had in an entire year.
Samsung is the exception in the Smart TV market. They have a history of expanding their offerings and supporting their apps.

But, I recall during the 2012 presidential debates, some apps that tried to live-stream them had some issues, some severe. If it's not done right, and by someone with the finances to do what it takes to get it right, it'll be a colossal failure.
The channels that streamed the debates live via the Roku (Huffpo, The Blaze, WSJ Live, Fox News) had no problems that I recall. They all had excellent streams.
