Roku Movie Problem-No Color

Postby Moviemad » Thu Nov 05, 2009 3:41 pm

Hi,
New here and hoping someone may have an answer to our problem. A few weeks ago we had probs with our TV volume and had to reset the TV, ever since then our roku netflix movies have been in black & white. Have tried everything we can think of and cannot get the color back. Any ideas????

How do you have the Roku connected to your TV?

Ok we aren't too high tech but hubby is looking. It's hooked right from the roku box to the back of the TV with a cable that has 3 connections-one yellow, one red & one white. When it was working OK the imput said video 1 but after the TV had to be reset it suddenly changed to component 1, and we had no color.

Sounds like you are not hooked up correctly. The Red and White connections are for the audio and the Yellow is for the video. If the Yellow is connected to one of the component connections, then you would probably get a black and white picture. You want to make sure the yellow cable is plugged into the yellow connection on the TV. That will most likely say Video 1 on the back of the TV and the red and white will be next to it most likely.

We don't know how it could have changed like that as we never unplugged any of the connections, but hubby just unplugged and replugged all connections. We don't have a yellow spot on the back of the TV we have green, blue, red & white. Our manuel says the green is the video connection. As I said nothing was unplugged and it worked fine until we had the volume get stuck on one level and had to call TV support line to reset the TV to some factory settings to restore the volume control. After resetting and fixing the volume Roku was in black & white.

Well, it sounds like the TV will accept component video, and that is a better connection anyway. I recommend getting a component cable and using that. It is a triple cable with red, blue, and green ends.

The red, blue and green connections together are called Component inputs. If you plug the yellow cable into one of those, you will have a strange picture, either black and white or even just a blueish, greenish or reddish picture. If you post the model of the TV you have, I or someone else might be able to look up how you should connect it for you.

What's the brand and model number of your TV? We may be able to look it up and see exactly what connections you have.

Use HDMI. It's audio and video together in one cable and you'll get the best quality picture from it. Don't spend a lot on one though. It's not worth it to get a "good" one.
