LiveSpy 2.1 released: Watch webcams on your PhotoBridge

Postby andy » Thu May 05, 2005 12:53 am

A new version of LiveSpy, the award-winning webcam browser for the
Roku PhotoBridge HD, has just been released.

New features in version 2.1 include:

* Screen Saver mode
* Recompiled to work on 2.0.16, 2.0.17, and above.

You can download LiveSpy or view screen shots by visiting the LiveSpy
home page:

http://frequal.com/LiveSpy/roku/index.html

or you can download it directly from this URL:

LiveSpy updates your screen with images from web cameras regularly
throughout the day. It automates the webcam browsing process,
downloading images in the background and displaying them as they are
ready. It includes an extensive list of cameras. You can choose to
watch events at one place in the world, or to cycle between all of the
available cameras. With LiveSpy, you gain a window on the world.

LiveSpy is compact and easy-to-use. Just unzip it on a writable
shared drive or Compact Flash card, refresh the share, run LiveSpy,
and enjoy your tour of scenes from around the world!

LiveSpy is compatible with the Roku PhotoBridge HD and requires an
internet connection. LiveSpy is shareware.

I've just moved v2.1 from my CF card to a network share and I've got problems... When I run the app I get the 'Please Wait' message then a black screen then a few seconds later I'm back at the desktop.!? Any ideas..?

Andy,
In your message you mention that "You can choose to
watch events at one place in the world, or to cycle between all of the
available cameras. ". How do I select a single camera from the list to monitor?. Also, any plans to support streaming webcams?.

I too am unable to run screen savers from a network share. Neither LiveSpy nor SongInfo works from a network share. They only work in a ScreenSavers folder on a flash share.

Perhaps someone from Roku could comment on this? Is it a known issue? I have experienced this with all 2.0 beta firmware releases from 2.0.10 onward.

Press "Menu", use the up or down arrow to navigate to the "Change To Next Camera Each Update" option, use the left or right arrow to select "No", then press "Select". LiveSpy will no longer advance in the camera list. However, it does queue up cameras for faster response, so you will have to select this option a few cameras ahead of where you want to stop. I plan to improve the behavior while in "one camera" mode to allow you to move between cameras with the direction buttons.

That is not currently high in the future feature list. Is there a particular camera in which you are interested? Many offer both streaming and single-image mode, the latter of which can be easily added to your LiveSpy camera list.

Any plans to add the ability to view user defined cameras..? I've got a couple of IP cameras around the house, it would be great to be able to view them via the HD1K...

[Edit] I've just tried v2.1 on my CF card and it does exactly the same.!? [Edit]
