So you have the bandwidth and processing power. Go into the PlayOn settings, look at the 'System Check' tab. Does everything say 'Passed' and is green? Then go back to the General settings tab, what is your 'Video Performance' set to? You can try lowering that one tier at a time to see if it improves. Also, remove the check mark by 'Always Process Entire Media File'.

My machine is not that different than yours. It's a quad core with 8gb. At any time I have 89-120 processes running including Outlook, Trillian, a weather program, my sidebar gadgets Winamp, and more all running at the same time as PlayOn is processing a media file for streaming. Do you have a game console? Use PlayOn with it and see if the same issue occurs. If you have an iPhone try using PlayOn with that and see if the issue occurs. make sure mobile access is enabled then just point your iPhone browser to http://m.playon.tv

If not, then it is either the Roku's hardware (not likely) or an issue with the way the channel is interfacing with PlayOn. Since the channel is an alpha that may be an issue, but I am not seeing it here. Be sure nothing is using your bandwidth, be sure there is no malware on your system. Change your router's frequency if it allows it as cordless phones may interfere with it. That actually happened here and changing my router's channel fixed it.

Other than that, hit the 'Support' button on the General tab of PlayOn's settings, submit a support ticket explaining the issue. The support button automatically uploads a log file and maybe they can parse it to help figure out where the bottleneck is. I have never had good luck with their support system, it seems they read the file and tell you they cannot help you. You may have better luck though. I highly doubt they will support your use of the Roku channel and use that as an excuse to blow you off.

What's the best way to find out if a particular program can be seen using PlayOn? We are about to cancel our cable tv and my wife is wondering how she can watch her show Project Runway.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
RB

What channel does Project Runway air on? Hulu has a limited selection: http://www.hulu.com/project-runway

Other than that, http://www.playonscripts.com or http://www.playonplugins.com might have a plugin for the channel or program you need.

Do all your dry testing before you cancel cable. Hold on to cable, and see if you can get by without it first.

Lifetime is not a partnered network. Look to see if any plugins are available for it. Don't ask me how to install plugins. I have not been successful at it yet.

Check to see if Hulu carries it. Netflix has the past series on DVD.

Thanks. I'll take a look. The problem is, for this show she doesn't want to wait until it's old. For most programming, we don't care about watching it AFTER the live showing. For this show, she wants it current, as I do for hockey.

Good idea, but we are committed to cutting the cable. It's not worth the big bucks for one (or even a few) shows. Worst case scenario (besides missing it completely), she can watch it on the computer.
Some day I'll figure out why my TV won't mirror my computer monitor!

Oh I understand entirely, my 16 year old watches that show all the time, we DVR it. I am afraid you will not be able to find what you are looking for however. I would love to lose my cable as well, but not at this time. More content needs to be available. I will probably uninstall PlayOn once Roku gets Hulu and there is a better solution for streaming local media.

Yohimba you are awsome! I unchecked media processing and playon works fine. I watched my 1st show. Though I have to agree that when Hulu is on Roku that is the way to go. If Playon lowers it price and/or makes it easier to work with a may be a keeper. But I'll try the 14 day trial and see how it goes. Thanks again.

Not clear what you mean by not finding what I'm looking for. You can watch Project Runway on the computer at least, after the air date. If I can ever figure out why my TV-computer connection won't work, we'll be able to watch it on the TV.

In any case, we are cutting the cable VERY soon regardless. The thing is, we COULD live without ANY tv. You only get attached to something if it's available. The shows we are so wanting to watch would fade from memory once we don't have it. Some years ago we had no tv and lived through it!

If your wife is looking for day after or week after airing of Project Runway, I don't think any of the current PlayOn channels will provide them. Only older episodes.

What is up with your computer connection to your TV? PM me so we don't go off topic and maybe I can help.

I watch all my favorite shows via the TV-Links script. This includes older episodes, as well as new stuff that's always available the day after airing, sometimes just hours after. I checked, and Project Runway is available at that site. Just FYI.

Here's a ton of TV shows online, including current ones!
I didn't know they were THIS available.
http://www.freeonlineepisodes.net/watch-tv-shows-online/

Now I just have to figure out how to get them onto my TV. (I've mentioned elsewhere how I'm having trouble connecting my TV as a second monitor - long story).
I wish I had waiting just a little while before buying this computer. Then I'd have Windows 7 and this problem might not exist. Is upgrading from XP to 7 really potentially problematic for a non-techie?

RB

PS - does anyone know why in the above link some of the TV shows will just play, others want you to download some codec which will give you advertising opening in a separate browser, and others want you to download the video and use Graboid to play the videos. I just tried some randomly and got all three of these. And does anyone have Graboid? Is it good?

All CBS shows? OR just specific ones? There is a known bug with NCIS due to variances in the way the XML is sent. This bug could impact other CBS shows (I didn't go through all of them yet). I know "BLEEP my dad says" works (at least as of yesterday).

I am currently finishing up a new release with the following changes/fixes:
1) Missing date node bug fixed (aka NCIS bug)
2) Empty List bug fix (aka EPSN3 Live bug)
3) Default folder icon in use for all levels where thumbnails aren't in the xml file
4) Configuration Screen:
- Clear Cached PlayOn IP & re-initiate server search
- Choose stream quality level
5) Tested on the latest playOn release
