BBC Iplayer

Postby hammers2332 » Thu Apr 12, 2012 11:22 am

Is anyone else having problems with this channel today?

I come to load it and everything looks fine, however when i come to play a program the screen is just grey with no picture but sound. All other Roku channels work fine and i can get the BBC Iplayer working fine on my laptop and through my bluray player.

Any suggestions anyone?

No, but they are working on it. I think we will get BBC America from the looks of things. Should land on the iPad first.

The BBC have said they are considering a pay for service that offers those outside of the UK the use of BBC iplayer.
As the largest (and best imo) broadcasting company in the world they would certainly have a huge amount of fantastic content to offer. If they do this then it would make sense that a Roku channel for the US box would follow seeing as it already exists on the UK box.

I wouldnt expect this soon though^

Well I'm on the waiting list for beta so if I hear something I'll share it. Provided I'm allowed to.

Not to drag the thread to a different topic, but is the list still open? What are the requirements to get to the waiting list? :)

The international iplayer has been a long time in the coming. It was 1st announced in 2010.
Ive seen news on it from last year also saying that it will not be web based but just for the ipad initially.
This did not include the USA though..It was just being developed for European Ipad owners.

That's interesting, from what I read it looked like USA is one of the first to get it.

Well it may eventually happening for the Roku but I see a lot broadcast rights issues for streaming to tvs in the USA. That said, if we did get a high quality version it would be a real replacement for cable. Hope the powers that be at Roku are making sure BBC knows that Apple is not the only game in town.

Well I figured out how to get iPlayer on the Roku in the U.S. and it works well. I'm not entirely certain about the legality of it all. I think it's legal but I'm not 100% on it.

Man, I would love a BBC channel.

I pay for episodes of Doctor Who through AOD right now, so if we had a BBC America channel where we could watch on demand, I would definitely be up for that.
