Netflix to add "Family Profiles"

Postby mikeyts » Wed Jan 09, 2013 7:33 pm

From this Engadget blog post:
First up was one of the most widely requested features -- the ability to set up individual profiles for different family members, complete with their own queues and recommendations. The profiles can be set up on device or on the Netflix site, with toggles for a preference to its Just for Kids menu UI, as well as asking a bit about your preferred movies to seed initial recommendations.

Being single I don't have much use for this but it is cool. No doubt people will also use this to make sharing an account with friends and family not in the same household easier. I don't see any indication of when they'll roll it out or what devices will have it.

So I can finally watch the new Sleeping Beauty http://www.okgazette.com/oklahoma/imgs/media.images/14625/sleepingbeauty.widea.jpg without having to answer the obvious questions?

It brings this "Netflix can sure embarrass you" thread to mind :).

How would this work on Roku? I guess you could select a profile and put in the password or PIN.
Roku2 XS, 42" LCD, Ethernet (5.5 b320)
Roku Stick HDMI, 32" LCD, WiFi (5.5 b2027)
Roku N1000, 25" CRT, Ethernet (3.1)
Router - Linksys WRT54G2
ISP - TWC - 50 Mbps/5 Mbps
Net+ Cert

Way off topic but I set up my brothers account for him. He had never had his own so he had no queue, ratings, or history. I wanted to "make sure it will play all the way through" so on his new Roku box I played the BackYadigans (sp?) and made sure he let it play out. The reason I did so is that for months Netflix kept recommending things like Barney and such.
