Just signed up for the Something weird channel as well as Synapse films. Digidev says they are on Roku and provides a link to enable in the channel store. Roku says no such thing. WTH is going on ? Anyone else have this problem?

It's probably a private channel. They're installed on the Roku website using a channel code provided by the channel owner/developer.

They provided one. Tried it and Roku says "invalid code"

That often means the channel was developed and abandoned.

Synapse is offered in the Channel Store now. I will try the free trial when I get a chance, it sounds interesting.

I was curious about the service but Digidev definitely needs to step it up on the customer relations and web interface front if they want anyone to use their service. The first hurdle was finding how to register. I ended up on Digidev.com initially which apparently is the corporate site. Digidev.tv doesn't even have a register link off the main page and not all "channels" have it either.

issues:

1. extrememly vauge about billing practices

It is never made particularly clear what you will be paying for - is it $5 a month for the service? Per channel? If I cancel do you delete my personal information? Are there any regional differences in the service?

2. vague about what you will get

The site does not support browsing what content is available without actually creating an account. Is the content in HD? If you subscribe to say "Synapse" do you get access to the their full archive or just a handful of titles at a time? What operating systems are supported for the web client? Is there going to be a PS3 / PS4 / etc. client?

3. rather uncool privacy policy

Digidev explicitly states signing up gives them the right to spam you about "special offers".

I was all excited to see Something Weird and Synapse show up in the Roku channel list but when a service is semi-shady about what they offer I certainly am not going to trust them with my personal info and credit card details.

Cheers

Hello,
To try and address all your questions and comments, let's start with our web interface.
Both our digidev.tv and our digidev.com sites are undergoing a complete overhaul which should be live within a week.
Second, BILLING:
Within each channel directly below the REGISTER NOW button, there is a complete description of the 7 day trial, the fee, and the service thereafter.
SERVICE:
You are paying $4.99 for each channel you sign up for. We are also working to provide subscribers both bundles as well as annual memberships to access our content.
PERSONAL INFO:
Once you are no longer a subscriber and choose to discontinue your service, you are removed from our subscriber database and your personal info is purged.
REGIONAL SERVICE:
Our content is the same across each channel throughout the United States.
WHAT YOU GET:
As stated before, you get exactly what you subscribe for. We are not currently queuing our films for HD. However, once you subscribe to a channel, you have full access to that particular channel.
OPERATING SYSTEM: Our content is available on your laptop, desktop, handheld device, tablet, etc. To access movies, simply use your device browser. We are also in the process of developing app based channels. At the moment, PS3/PS4/XBOX are not in que, but we are looking into those platforms.
PRIVACY POLICY: http://digidev.tv/privacy-policy.html
Our privacy policy is quite standard and we are committed to protecting your privacy and your confidential information. We only contact you regarding specials or upcoming releases we have in que, and the privacy policy gives you the choice to opt out of special offers emails.

Thanks for writing and we hope this clears up some of your questions.

Cheers

DigiDevTV, I appreciate you coming here to answer our questions. I've been looking forward to these channels.

I would be more likely to subscribe if I knew exactly what each channel offered. As it's set-up right now, I'd have to sign-up before I can see what titles are available for streaming. It would be nice if customers could preview the channel and maybe watch some short clips before subscribing.

Also, most people (like me) want HD videos. I know a lot of these old, low-budget films are probably not going to be available in HD. But both Synapse and Something Weird have some titles on Blu-ray. So I hope you can add a couple HD movies in the future.

I'm a big fan of SW, and would subscribe IF you guys explained the programming upfront. SW has a good catalog of full movies, but they've also got a catalog of short subjects many of which are already available On Demand and on YouTube. If the channel contains full movies then there's a good chance I'll subscribe. If not, I probably won't.

You guys really need to offer a bundle subscription discount as well. $5 a month per channel is already pretty high since Netflix is only $8 and Amazon Prime Instant is only about $6.50. It's highly doubtful even two of your channels combined will provide anywhere near the quantity of content of the aforementioned. If the channels have a decent quantity of non-Public Domain movies (NOT short subjects/trailers), a $7 bundle for two channels would be easier for customers to justify.

Guys..just wanted to share my experience regarding the Something Weird channel. I was frustrated that Digidev doesn't disclose any of the programming on their channels in advance. I signed up for the 7 day trial for the Something Weird channel. As of 7 March 2013, they have 31 movies on there. Everything else is "shorts" approximately 7-10 minutes in length (burlesque, education films, etc.). The movies were a mish-mash of edited 60s/70s porn (note that it is EDITED). They do have a number of H.G. Lewis films up there though, which is nice.

To be honest, I don't think the Something Weird channel is worth anywhere near $5 a month, even if you are a fan of SW (which I am). I was afraid they'd try and build the channel around a bunch of short reels, and that's pretty much what they've done....that is content you can find on SW's YouTube channel and/or on their OnDemand (free) channel. And there's not even a ton of the short stuff there.

DigiDev has done a pretty poor job of explaining what their plans are for the channel as well. It would be helpful if they'd explain whether they're going to make the entire SW library available on demand, or they're going to curate a new selection each month. And if they're going to curate, how many movies we can expect in their lineup.

Anybody having problems logging in to the channels. My credentials aren't being recognized. I was up and running fine. I changed my password on the site to see if that helps. Haven't had time to go to the Roku to try yet.

Thanks for the followup Torbor, I've getting increasingly frustrated with Netflix here in Canada and was hoping that these channels might act as a semi-replacement. Sounds like Digidev needs some work both infrastructure and policy-wise before they are worth giving money to.

Cheers
