Losing wireless connection rather frequently with Roku 3

Postby shelleyp » Tue Mar 19, 2013 9:25 am

I'm finding that I'm losing the wireless connection with the Roku 3 rather frequently, and consistently. In fact, every time I start using it for the day, I have to reconnect.

It's worse if another Roku (older, first gen) is being used on another TV. Supposedly I have 6Mbps download connection speed, and I didn't have problems with first gen Rokus (though I did have some issues with the Angry Birds Roku box).

I can see buffering, but I shouldn't be losing the connection. No, I don't lose it with any other device, or with the older Rokus. So this is a new Roku 3 problem.

Same here. Is it affecting other devices as well?

This same thing is occurring for my roku3. Each day when I start watching I have to reconnect to my wireless. Any ideas?

Please, when reporting issues with the R3 units, give MUCH more detail, and especially this information.

We're tracking this and other issues, and we need as much detail as possible.

I found this forum while searching for a possible explanation. I am also dropping my wireless connection on the new Roku 3 daily.

When I first turn on the TV I will not have a connection. I run thru setup and it connects without issue. So far, I have never dropped a connection while in use and speed seems normal. It only seems to happen after I have turned off the TV for the day. The next time I turn on the TV, I have to run thru the setup again and it will reconnect fine. I have yet to see it retain a connection. I did not have this issue on the Roku 2 XS I replaced. It was rock solid every time on the same router. It seems to drop during "idle" time only.

I have a dual band router. This was my main reason to upgrade. I have it on the 5 and not 2.4 band. The other Roku was obviously on 2.4. I have not put it on the 2.4 yet to see if it makes a difference.

Any input would be appreciated.

Sorry I'm late to respond.

RokuShawn, the link you posted listing info you want just triggers an empty reply.

I'll pm you the serial number

I wonder is it's a lan ping issue. I had to turn off my router firewall to fix it but since then it's staying connected.

I'm also having the same trouble. Every time my roku goes idle for a few hours, it loses all wireless connectivity, so I have to power-cycle it every day, at least.

My Roku 3 is about a week old. I am experiencing the same lost connection on first use of the day. If I reboot its fine. My older Rokus never had this issue. All other devices not having this issue. We get about 20 Mbps on the dual band Netgear router. N900 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router WNDR4500

I'm seeing the same problem. Multiple times a day, after not using it for a while, I lose connection and have to go back to Settings > Network > Wireless and reselect the network. At that point it's fine. Seems like it's just not trying hard enough to reconnect.

I have a Roku 3. Drops connection constantly. Can't get through any Netflix program. Sometimes the network vanishes and I have to set it up again. Though it remembers the password once I reselect my network. Had the LT in the same setup a week ago with no problem. I got the Roku 3 for the gaming and headphone jack in the remote. That drops out for split seconds too. Seems unrelated to the wireless connection dropping out. This unit is bugged and shouldn't have been released. Updated software today. No help. I have the latest version now and have cycled power and still lose the connection constantly every few minutes. Send solution to my email. I don't monitor forums.

I reset my cable modem and router and haven't even had a buffering delay in 2 days now! Audio still glitches but this is minor I guess. TV volume is okay, only the headphone jacks cuts out occasionally for a second.
