SoundBridge 2.5.174 (beta) is now available

Postby RokuMike » Thu Sep 28, 2006 3:44 pm

Greetings!

We're pleased today to announce the beta release of SoundBridge version 2.5.174.

This is a highly limited-scope release, intended to address two specific issues that have affected certain customers, as well as to update some Internet radio URLs. Specifically:
  1. This release fixes several issues that have arisen with Windows Media Player 11, both on Windows XP and Windows Vista. Specifically, this issue resolves problems playing audio on M1001 models, as well as problems with transcoded files (e.g. WMA Lossless or multichannel WMA).
  2. This release includes the support, added in 2.5.173(beta), for playing Internet Radio stations exported by the Firefly media server.
  3. This release updates the built-in URLs for the BBC.

Users who have not been affected by these issues will not see changes in the behavior of the SoundBridge, and may not wish to update to the beta. However, if you are affected by one or the other of the issues above, we invite you to download the beta and give it a try. In order to download the beta, you need to visit the beta sign-up page below, and follow the instructions there.

NOTE: We would like to emphasize that this release does not improve support for iTunes 7. We continue to work on that issue, and will of course post an announcement when we have news to report!

NOTE: Because of the way the Preset system works, the updated URLs provided for the BBC will not affect any BBC stations saved as one of your 18 presets. Use the browsing feature to navigate to the BBC station you want to play, and once you've verified that the station is now working, you may re-save it to your Presets.

This release is considered a beta release, and therefore we welcome reports of problems. However, please limit your bug reports to issues that are new in this release, compared to 2.5.171. This release is of very limited scope, and does not attempt to fix any problems beyond what is listed above. Report any such problems in this thread. Thanks!

No change here, unfortunately, both my soundsbridges (one M1000 and one M1001) both still refuse to play any of my mp3 from WMP11B2 with "unable to play" :-(

I am running 2.5.174 on both my M1000 and M1001. I am now streaming WMAL, MP3 and WMA DRM (Yahoo Unlimited) with WMP11 Beta 2. I find WMP11 Beta 2 to be slightly more sluggish than WMC when browsing and buffering tunes. Otherwise, I am having no issues.

what's worse, my M1001 is now stuck in Radio mode, and there seems to be NO way to get out of it and back onto te top level to select the server or change configuration. All i can do is stop/resume radio playback, chnage stations, etc. Even after unplugging the power and plugging it back, it goes right back into radio ;(

(i didn't (dare) try what happens with the M1000 if i evter radio mode there ;-).

could this be a bug in the new rev? if so, any idea how to get back out of this?

update: only way to get out of this was to connect via HTTP and set the "upon restart" option to "show server list". after that, a power disconnect broughtr me back to the main screen. mp3 streaming is still not working, though - i guess i'll revert back to WMP10/WMC2 in the morning ;(

update2: the problem was/is that apparently the "menu/home" key on my remote stopped working; i switched to the other remote from my M1000, and it works fine on both bridges (the one from the M1001 works on neither). strangely, only the home/menu key is affected. all other controls work fine. Since i don't ever use radio, /and/ the M1001 remote is labeled confusingly, that threw me off <g>. So false alarm onm the "stuck in radio" issue, my apologies.

M1000 hangs after selecting a preset

Postby ats65 » Mon Oct 02, 2006 5:23 am

I selected a preset and then immediately go to change the volume. The M1000 hangs and the only way to get it working again is to power it off and on. My wired MAC address is: 00:0d:4b:03:65:bb

So, do you mean that you tried to adjust the volume while the preset screen was still up?

After I have selected a station and press ok to play. Just before it started playing, I press the volume control to adjust the volume. That is when the unit hung.

Unable to get the beta version

Postby TEK » Tue Oct 03, 2006 1:16 pm

Hello

I went to the beta-signup page and registered my Roku mac address (00:0D:4B:04:C5:FE).
However, when I try to check for updates it does not find any new software. I have waited over 1 minute, problably over 15 as well.

I'm running Ruko 1001 with software version 2.5.171.

Any suggestions?

Make sure you're using the wired MAC address.

Ough...
Strange about it. I had my mind totally set on the wireless mac address so I totally read: bla, bla, wirless mac, even if using the wired.

Worked like a charm now, and it fixed the issue with WMP Beta II
Great!

Solved - apparently this was a different problem alltogether. By experimenting from my Vista laptop as a consumer, i noticed that apparenty WMNSS3 runs a HTTP server on port 10243 to provide the actual mp3 streams - which hadn't been opened in my Windows Firewall automatically during setup. So devices could browse the library (which apparenly works via different ports that get opened via UPnP), but not access the actual files.

All working fine now.

Interesting. That certainly sounds like a possible bug in NSS. Thanks for reporting it!

dwarfland, on the Exceptions tab of the Windows Firewall control panel, do you have 6 exceptions with the title "Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service"?

We have had some isolated reports of Windows Firewall issues with WMP11 Beta 2. Sounds like you got things working. A workaround for anyone else that may encounter this issue with WMP11B2 is to turn off WMP sharing for all users then turn it back on. This should re-punch the necessary firewall ports.

I am running WMP 11 Beta 2, and have upgraded to 2.5.174 which fixed my problems with WMAL.

Now my problem is after my PC returns from hibernation, I then turn on the SoundBridge and it can not find my music library: it just wants to play radio.

When I look at the 1001 from IE I see:
Status & Control
SoundBridge is not connected to a library.

So I just did a restart my PC (Win XP SP2), same problem.

So I just did restart of the SoundBridge and it works.

Please help.
