All the sample from the hdpvr that I have seen are all max bit rate recordings that might be fine for purists but are quite impractical from the storage point of view. I've not seen any samples of recordings at practical bit-rates. The big question to me is how low can you go before seeing artifacts...

1080p h.264/mpeg4 is not possible at the current time.

High bitrate is possible with the skiploopfile ffmpeg switches under mplayer under Linux. I'm currently investigating the limits of 720p h.264 under the AppleTV OS with mplayer and other apps that use ffmpeg.

Hi jm_maclaren, I do have to say many thanks for your work on mythroku, it has been the number one app on my HD1000 before I retired it. Have not thought about selling it, don't think I could get much for it without being in working condition. This one is running an external ATX power supply with U1...

A fond farewell to my HD1000

And so it is that I bid a fond farewell to my HD1000. It's died for the third time and quite frankly, I've gotten tired of fixing it or rather hearing from my SO that the Roku is broke again. Such a nice product, too bad it was totally abandoned by Roku. And the new Roku products are crippled and mu...

Transplant complete -- It's alive again. After the heat sink epoxy sets, I'll be up and running again.

Power on LED comes on but no boot. I tried a known good ATX PS with same results. I'll take it in to work tomorrow and check it out. We use a special low temp solder for removing surface mount parts. It changes the melting point so it's real easy to heat and remove. We pull 208 pin quad flat packs t...

Test with finger was the first thing I tried, I still have my finder tip, U12 was not hot at all. Next was replacement ATX power supply and same thing. So more advanced poking is required.

I rolled my own with an external small ATX power supply. I'm going to check the voltage on the on-board regulators (shoot, voltmeter is at work). It's most likely U12 so I'll also order some replacements. I'm quite comfortable replacing surface mount components so I'll replace it myself and add addi...

And mind just has died for the second time. The first time the power supply fried, I guess it' now the on-board regulator. Decision time, another AppleTV or send it to Pyramid for a repair.

I have a regression feature request. I don't know if the current behavior is different but if I return from viewing a recorded show, I always return back to the menu with a tuner for live-tv selected. Before live-tv was integrated, one always returned back with the menu showing what you had previous...

I have a PhotoBridge which I'm quite happy with but I won't be getting a HD2000. Too much money, no real SDK (I do C/C++, I don't do scripts) and still no ethernet yet. Sorry but I've gotten tried of the promises. For $500 dollars, I rather spend a bit more and buy a MacMini. My replacement is an $3...
