Re: Two WHILE loops in the main code?

As far as I know, it's not possible to run multiple while loops at the same time. There are ways to create timing functionality without using the SceneGraph (XML) timer component (try roTimespan). But I would encourage you to figure out a way to make all the business logic fit into one while loop.

Re: logos changing from blue to orange or orange to blue

What firmware version is this occurring on. I suspect this may be an issue with 8.0 firmware?

Re: Funny HLS Behavior with roVideoPlayer

In case anybody stumbles across this...

As an update, I made a mistake previously, and the issue occurs in each of the roVideoPlayer, roVideoScreen, and the scene graph video node.

Re: ifSGNodeField.setField() fail

The code I used to test this is:

isFieldSet = m.top.setField("someField", someString)
print "isFieldSet: "; isFieldSet

And I see in the console:

isFieldSet: false

So, I'm as sure as I can be.

ifSGNodeField.setField() fail

I have a situation where setting a field on a node occasionally fails. According to the documentation: setField(fieldName as String, value as Object) as Boolean Sets the value of the subject node field identified by  fieldName   to  value . This will fail and stop script execution if the value is n...

Funny HLS Behavior with roVideoPlayer

I've been experiencing an issue playing some HLS streams via a roVideoPlayer on non new models (up to and including the Roku 4). Playback appears fine on Express, Premiere, and Ultra models. The issue is that at some points during the stream (always at the same time for a specific video), the video ...

I don't mean to be rude, but I don't know what your question is.

Re: How to create a Singleton PAttern in BrightScript?

It's not exactly a singleton, but I believe you can do what you want (create a function that is accessible to both the 'main' and scene graph threads) if you just include the .brs script file you want to access in the scene graph component's script tags. Even if the .brs script file resides in pkg:/...

Star button on Roku Ultra

I've got a roVideoPlayer with custom controls. Pressing the star button brings up a dialog allowing users to turn on/off captions for a specific video, or tells the user if there are no captions available. The new Roku Ultra model  (and Premiere, but not the Express) has functionality that brings up...

Roku TVs - app crashes at start up

It seems that some of our users are having problems on Roku TVs where our app crashes immediately after displaying the splash screen. Our app doesn't have problems on regular Roku devices. Is there something fundamentally different about Roku TVs that could be causing the issue? Unfortunately we don...

Re: Scene Graph Component Library Script Resolution

The example Component Library app shows how to do this. Find both relevant downloads on this page: https://sdkdocs.roku.com/display/sdkdoc/ComponentLibrary but basically, you include the .brs file in the components folder of your component library package and access it like: <script type="text/...

Re: Graph Scene Custom Components Issue

Ok, so I think I realized the issue. I was changing the observable field after recognizing a keypress. And as other people have noticed, creating custom components in the onKeyEvent function doesn't work. Apparently creating custom components from within other functions that are set in motion by the...

Re: Graph Scene Custom Components Issue

Are you making sure to keep the component in scope? If you're just creating it in a variable local to the function, it'll get disposed as soon as you exit the function. The issue I'm having is that it won't even create the custom component, let alone give the opportunity to add it to the scene. Whe...

Re: Graph Scene Custom Components Issue

After more experimentation, I've deduced that it is not possible to create custom components in observeField() callback functions. Additionally as is mentioned in this post, it's not possible to create custom components from within the onKeyEvent function. Unfortunately, the way I've set things up, ...
