Re: Beta Scene Graph Components

I just realised that global scope is not the same for the component and channel, GetGlobalAA() differs in the component. Well, I can deal with that but the libraries.. for example, to load a library (generalUtils.brs, analytics.brs, ...) it's required to insert <script> tag in every xml component. ...

Re: Beta Scene Graph Components

I've hit a snag when adding a component interface that uses the 'alias' attribute. Everything works correctly except when I attempt to alias the 'state' or 'control' attributes of a Video node. The documentation for a Video node defines the type of the control property as 'option string' and type(vi...

Sounds pretty... censored. How does it act if you include STOP statement inside the B/S XML? An excel...

Re: Beta Scene Graph Components

The video.mute field seems to have no effect. Whether true or false, I'm always getting sound during playback.

Re: Beta Scene Graph Components

I'm having difficulty with the debugger. I've created two telnet sessions: one to the 8085 port and one to the 8089 port. While the 8089 session displays the output of any Brightscript defined in the XML components, there is no response to any BrightScript debugger commands entered via this console....

Re: Beta Scene Graph Components

I'm not sure if this is a 'bug' or a 'feature' but I'm seeing a sensitivity to the order in which XML elements are defined. The XML file below defines: (a) an upper and lower <Rectangle> (b) 3 <Poster> elements that appear in the middle of the screen, and (c) 3 <Label> elements The issue is the beha...

Re: caching behavior of roUrlTransfer

Thanks for feedback. I'm going to try EnTerr's approach. It's a kludge but it should suffice for speeding up development testing.

caching behavior of roUrlTransfer

I have a private channel that accesses some JSON files with configuration data. Nothing fancy, just a basic roUrlTransfer: req = createObject("roUrlTransfer") req.setCertificatesFile("common:/certs/ca-bundle.crt") req.setUrl(targetUrl) response = req.getToString() config = ParseJ...

Re: pros and cons: XML vs JSON

Thanks for all the responses. These pretty much confirm my initial impression that JSON was the better choice but I was afraid I was overlooking something that would tilt the scale back in favor of XML. A server-side conversion to JSON is no problem (I already have code that does that). Regarding be...

pros and cons: XML vs JSON

I've got a project where I have to deal with metadata files describing all sorts of things (i.e, rating, running time, cast, etc). Currently the files are in XML using a schema I can not change. Multiple namespaces are used. As an example, here is a small subset from a file that uses ~ 450 lines of ...

progress indicators

I have a roPosterScreen and want to show a visual indication (e.g. animated spinning wheel) of an operation in progress when the user makes a selection. I assume (hope?) there is a easy way to do this but haven't found it in the documentation. Can anybody point me in the right direction?
Thanks

monitoring the refcnt

Is it possible via the debugger to print the refcnt for an arbitrary variable? If I put a stop statement in my code the debugger will show the refcnt for the immediate scope: Local Variables: cpx roAssociativeArray refcnt=4 count:20 global rotINTERFACE:ifGlobal m roAssociativeArray refcnt=5 count:11...

Re: is dynamic loading of brs modules possible?

First off, thanks to all who replied. I will definitely take a look at the Eval() and Run() functions. In response to those who asked what would be a use-case for this type of approach, one that comes to mind would be a games channel. Each game would require its own custom code to handle animation, ...
