Marshall, what SNR and signal quality does the SB currently report? Have you tried Netstumbler as well - I find this is a more reliable and visually easier to interpret way of measuring the wifi signal strength (but you need a laptop with a compatible wireless card for it to work). Also, are you sti...

No, the access point is in strict Universal Repeater mode, so it has to be on the same channel as the router. I spent some time figuring out which was the best channel as I was getting interference from a number of neighbouring networks, but also I suspect from DECT phones and other sources (but I d...

Well, I have had some success. Instead of switching the router to g only (well, tried that and it didn't work), I set the MAC filtering to prevent the SB connecting directly. The repeater then was the only option for the SB to connect. Initially, the SB did not want to connect. So giving up, I walke...

Well that doesn't inspire much confidence in Edimax tech support then :( So, back to the original question - what can be stopping the SB connecting to the repeater? The only thing I've noticed which may be a possible issue (but I'm making a wild guess here) is that the repeater clones its own MAC ad...

Well, OK, I'm relying on what I've been told by Edimax tech support:
11b devices are incompatible with WPA
and in a followup email after I challenged this
it is a fact that 11b is incompatible to WPA

Who's right?

Er, don't think so - I quote from Pinnacle's website:
Fully Plug-and-Play - Works with PC and Mac. Compatible with 802.11b and 802.11g wireless networks.

Also, WPA encryption is incompatible with the 11b standard, and yet the device supports WPA...

M400 wireless mode

I have a SoundBridge HomeMusic (M400) operating on a wireless g network with WPA encryption. I have 3.0.49 beta firmware installed. It connects fine to my router, but the signal is a little on the weak side so is easily disrupted by interference. In an effort to improve things, I have put a wireless...

I've just 'modified' my router aerial using the free parabolic reflector design from freeantennas: http://www.freeantennas.com/projects/template2/index.html and also repositioned the SB slightly. Actually, my router is next to the BT phone socket, which is in the corner of the house, so wifi distrib...

Having battled with the same device myself, I've found that changing wifi channels has helped enourmously. Unfortunately, there's usually a bit if guesswork involved. Whilst you can see any other wireless networks in the pickup range, you can't see any other intereference in the 2.4GHz range unless ...

Further update - having changed to yet another wifi channel, things seem to have stabilized. Can't afford a WiSpy but suspect there was some other intereference going on. So far (after 2 days) the device has stayed connected to Firefly. I maintain though that it is needlessly sensitive to interferen...

To update on my earlier post, the loss of connection to Firefly happens during playback at seemingly random times. My signal strength is -74 to -78dBm, quality between 95 and 100%. The router is set in RIP2M mode (i.e. with multicast). The SB will mostly reconnect to the FF with a reset (not always,...

I find MediaMonkey works well, though the speed is somewhat dictated by the speed of your network. Also, it is very slow if you use the default automatic tag updating - switch this off, do your tag edits, then manually synchronise tags, it's a lot faster that way.

I have SSID being broadcast and have always done so (due to a compatibility issue with one of my APs), and am still experiencing the dropped server connection problem. I think wireless network issues are a separate issue and a bit of a red herring in this discussion because even when the soundbridge...
