Open, grassroots Internet television via RSS & Bittorren

Sorry, this is really too-touchy of subject to be discussed here.

MPlay3 - pre-buffering of next file?

I'm hoping to use MPlay's playlist feature to run looping animated video clips as a screensaver (see http://www.electricsheep.org). These are short (5 sec or so) files that loop seamlessly, however when played in MPlay as a playlist using the :repeat command, I get a significant pause at the end of ...

If anyone is interested, the video art is called "colorcalm" and available from amazon (I have no connection with amazon or colorcalm): http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00063E79G It's also available from Microcinema (http://www.microcinema.com/programResult.php?program_id=366) - a specalist ...

Possibly related to this, I have a query regarding chapter playback from the command line or a playlist. Specifically, can I tell MPlay to play only a specified chapter from a DVD rip, then exit or proceed to the next entry in a playlist? I'd like to be able to put together a playlist of songs from ...

Any recommendations on a NAS box?

I'm looking for a good network attached storage box with raid or some level of built in backup. Something in the 250GB to 1TB range, and rackmount would be a nice to have. Must play well with Mac and Linux networks. (Geeze - is this starting to sound like a personals ad? "Should be able to gut fish,...

The sheep use some odd MPEG2 codec, which the Roku won't play (it just displays a broken file icon when I try it).

Electric Sheep Screensaver - one step closer

After much fiddling and mucking about, I'm one or two steps closer to my goal of having ElectricSheep as the screensaver on my Roku (http://www.ElectricSheep.org). The steps so far are: - install ElectricSheep on a windows box and let it build up a flock - use VLC to convert the mpeg2 sheep to .ts s...

Re: fuzzy display using 1080I????

How are you connecting the Roku to the display device? I've reciently found that if I use the HD15 (VGA) connection with cables plugged into the component outputs at the same time, I get a fuzzy display that may be similar to what you're seeing. This is probably due to the impedence on the cables wh...

Some truly stunning Photo viewing software

I'm currently having a play with Picasa (http://www.Picasa.com) - some very very nice software for organising, viewing and archiving your photo and movie collections. The design and behavour of the program is extreamly well thought out, and is a joy to use - have a play with the timeline feature to ...

Sujal - it's great to hear you've made progress on this, and that you've had support from Roku with access to their 1.6 software. I'd have to agree with you that the HD1000 is the best product of its sort on the market (about the only product of its sort, really), and I'm looking forward to seeing t...

Using a optical digital cable should solve this issue for you. If you are short on optical inputs, would you be able to change the CD or DVD to coax? A digital ground breaker could be inserted between the Roku and the amp, but it's not the cheapest option. Optical to coax convertors are also availab...

Screen Saver & video server client

I've purchased a couple for clients with the intention of using the video passthrough's screensaver feature to protect plasma screens against burnin (mostly from Imerge based music servers). Granted - the HD1000 can be configured to turn on automatically, and a few minutes later kick in the screen s...
