FYI: This did work. We purchased a utility to change the MAC address of our laptop to the wireless MAC address on the back of the Roku box. We accepted the terms of use, turned off the laptop, then went through the Roku screen to connect to the Internet. Voila, Netflix! Yup! That's the quick and ea...

James,

Excellent information. Thank you!

So am I correct in assuming that our Netflix Player will *not* be using the same 2.6Mbps & 3.8Mbps VC1 Advanced-Profile streams?

Cheers,
Kermee

"Roku will be using Advanced Profile encodes which will deliver HD at substantially lower bit-rates than what Xbox is offering." SWEET! I've always wondered about that since the Roku has hardware to directly support AP versus the Xbox which has to do everything via software. Cheers, Kermee

I have a sneaking suspicion the 1-4 dot Mbps range will be a lot tighter for HD content than the current SD. I can't imagine a 1-dot (HD) being a lower bitrate than a 4-dot (SD). My guess is a 1-dot (HD) will be at a bitrate at or above 4-dot (SD) or else it should "throttle" the user back...

So if you have a 250GB cap with Comcast on say a 16/2 plan...

... you'll hit your cap in about... 30 or so viewed movies. (Assuming that's the only traffic across your connection).

Guess I'm spoiled with Verizon FiOS 15/15 and living on the West Coast: % ping moviecontrol.netflix.com PING moviecontrol.netflix.com (208.75.76.19) 56(84) bytes of data. 64 bytes from moviecontrol.netflix.com (208.75.76.19): icmp_seq=1 ttl=243 time=23.7 ms 64 bytes from movi...

LOL, ok, guys I think we have irrefutably established that it is the router that sucks... I'll get another one. If you have Verizon FiOS TV along with Internet, you'll need to keep that router around AFAIK since the STB's depend on it. IIRC, there's articles on dslreports.com in the Verizon FiOS fo...

I have Verizon FiOS 15/15. No lag or quality issues at all. Using the wireless part of the unit with 128-bit WEP on an ASUS WL-500gP. Watched an entire movie today with the girl with no issues at all (It was "How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days")... Wait... why did she pick that movie? Is she try...
