Re: No Idea What I'm Doing

FYI, Github is free for a public page, $7/mo for private repositories, so it may be your cheapest option. You can also serve a feed from a public website endpoint.

Re: No Idea What I'm Doing

I have a README on Github with a sample feed that tells you how to use Vimeo. You can serve your feed on a gh-pages branch.

Let me know if you have questions.

Re: JSON with Vimeo Pro Required content videos missing

I think videos needs to be an array of objects, not just an object. You need the brackets.

"videos": [

],

You are just using

"videos": {

}

The JSON might validate, but the Roku server throws an exception.

Re: Feed Status Assistance

Your welcome. I had similar issues putting my first feed together. So many nested objects, it's hard to see the mistakes, and sometimes the JSON validates. I will take some time to put together a mock Series feed as well. That was the most difficult to get working because of the nesting episodes. Le...

Re: Feed Status Assistance

I think I found it:  Your shortFormVideo object needs to be named shortFormVideos (plural). Just add the 's' to the object key and see if that works. Check your other objects to make sure they fit the schema as well. It will be valid JSON, but the Roku server will spit it out. https://github.com/rok...

Re: "No valid items were found in the feed" - Using Vimeo Pro

Use Vimeo Pro to get HLS external links.

Read this README - it tells you how. https://kbdick.github.io/sr_roku/README_sample.md

Re: ERROR: Unable to download from feedUrl.

I host my feed on Github. You need to set up Github Pages (gh-pages branch) and use a robots.txt file with the user agent set to disallow. It makes it public, but only if you know where it is. Then you don't need to change any settings. You could also host from a public folder and use the robots.txt...

Re: Feed Status Assistance

Your episodes need to be nested in a series object - they can't stand alone. I tried this on a channel, and the navigation is too clunky - it puts everything nested and you can't put an individual episode in a category.  Instead of doing it this way, I found putting the episodes in as short form vid...

Re: Roku using Vimeo external link

Are you using Vimeo Pro? I think I recall that the external links are dynamic otherwise. I use Pro and use the HLS external link with no issues.

Re: Titles Over Video

To clarify, I set my categories in the Feed and then manually set the categories. If the Feed was valid, you can pull the categories from the Feed by manually entering the name, and it will show up as a choice. You still have to manually set the categories, but it might make maintenance a little eas...

Re: Titles Over Video

I was able to get this working well by setting the categories in the feed and using the custom categories option. If you've already created them from the feed, it seems to take those.

Seems like a switch in the feed would work as well - not sure why they have this as a ui component.

Re: Titles Over Video

Ah. Got it. I knew I saw it somewhere. So you can't pull your categories from the feed, you have to use the online customization. Wish they had a switch in the DP feed.

Re: Titles Over Video

The Rolling Stone channel has it, and that thing looks like it is right out of Direct Publisher. I thought it was in Layout in the Channel settings, but all that is there now is the Hero row option.

I'll reply here if I figure it out.
