Re: Roku Xs compared the Logitech Revue

Well, I just ordered one. For $99, t seems like a deal for any techie who likes to play with this stuff. Mine is supposed to arrive today. I got an even better deal - coincidentally when the price was slashed, I got an email coupon from Logitech for a one time 50% off any purchase that expires toda...

Re: Hard to get nearly complete TV content on Roku

OP -- you can go OTA - (can be a pain)...-or as I do and go basic broadcast cable + Roku is a pretty strong combo. There are still some gaps but saving $75 or more/month is pretty nice. This is exactly what I did awhile back and I have been very satisfied. Between Amazon, Netflix, and the various c...

Well, I just ordered one. For $99, t seems like a deal for any techie who likes to play with this stuff. We'll see, Seems to me, even as it is now (without the update), it has plenty of fun and good use in it. Worse case, you can have a 42" Android tablet (as someone already pointed out). My Ro...

Re: anyone buy mp3's from Amazon

I have been using Amazon Cloud music service for a month or so and I love it. I buy mp3s and they are stored on the cloud and can listen to them on multiple devices or they can be downloaded to another storage device (iPod, USB drive, HDD). I would love to see an Amazon Cloud channel added to the R...

Re: Ability to Record to TiVo or similar DVR

This long-time TiVo user knows a compelling reason to record Roku video: Why, the same reason we bought TiVo in the first place — to be able to skip the frakking commercials, on streams that disallow fast-forwarding through them, e.g., Hulu Plus or the horrible, horrible implementation on Crackle, ...

Re: Ability to Record to TiVo or similar DVR

To the original poster: I am a long time user of ReplayTV (TiVo like device), HDD recorders, you name it. Technically, I can record anything I want to if I want to. But with Roku I have never seen the need and, indeed, as many here have pointed out, it would be counter-productive in most cases. Roku...

Re: Any Pandora suggestions?

I've had similar experiences. Pandora should write some sort of FAQ on this. When I started I had one station with all my favorite songs from all genres. It would play a variety but get "stuck". When it picked a metal song to emulate it would play a dozen in a row, the it would play a doz...

Re: Any Pandora suggestions?

Well, a few... first, avoid giving thumbs up and thumbs down ratings -- that is, use them very sparingly or your stations get boring (too much similarity). Second. stations based on one song or artist work best most of the time. Occasionally, I make a station with lots of artists, but 90% of the tim...

Re: My Media - Your Music and Video on the Roku DVP

Well, late to the party, but I just installed My Media and just wanted to say "Nice job!" -- definitely the easiest one to install I've tried so far. Very nice and easy setup and it works! None of the muss and fuss of others I've tried, Thanks so much -- this is a great addition to my Roku!

+1 to the queue/save feature -- that was the very first thing I missed when trying this out.

Re: Amazon Prime unlimited streaming officially launches

I buy a lot from Amazon and considered a Prime membership, but $80 seemed too high to me for 2 day shipping on "some" items, but this added value may be enough to sway me, especially if they have more TV offerings than Netflix. I see it as complimentary to Netflix. For me, this is a better...

Re: Gabby Beta with DLNA support to be released today!

Well, I am giving Gabby a whirl and after a little bit of futzing around did get it working. I think it has potential. Photos work well, MP3's work well, mostly, a few won't play, but most do. Video is more problematic. Many won't play and after several "Can't start encoding" errors my PC...

Re: Roku Newscaster discussion and support

Glad to see ABC and Fox on NEWSCASTER. But, why are so may news shows out-of-date. The NBC shows seem to be up-to-date but, others are as much as 3 days behind. Why is that? Not sure about ABC, but FOX may be "out of date" because so many of their shows broadcast from the Dark Ages. ;) Ju...
