Re: color bars or calibration patterns

If you are a Netflix subscriber, there are some test patterns available at the end of two streaming titles:

Re: 6.2 build 693?

•The UP button will no longer exit Netflix when in Instant Queue only mode (exiting Netflix is done by pressing the HOME button) Oddly, I am on version 2.6 687 and noticed this behaviour earlier this week. Except I am not in instant queue only mode, I have browse and search enabled. Starting with o...

Re: Hooking up netflix with cable to a laptop

But if you are going to bridge your wireless to your wired so you can used the Ethernet port; then remember to get a Ethernet crossover cable or it will not work. One advantage of using Internet Connection Sharing is that ICS runs a DHCP server on the machine that is sharing its connection. Since t...

Re: Hooking up netflix with cable to a laptop

Sharing your internet connection from an XP or Vista/7 computer to the Roku DVP (formerly the Netflix Player) is very straightforward and works just fine. Here are Microsoft's instructions on how to configure this type of setup: Windows XP Windows 7/Vista A description of my experience with the shar...

Re: How to block netflix channel URLs

Blocking moviecontrol.netflix.com will prevent the player from obtaining authorization to start playing Netflix content. You can still use all the other channels and browse your Netflix queue (but not play anything) while moviecontrol.netflix.com is blocked.

Re: Apartment Community WIFi

I thought the roku has trouble with ICS because it doesn't handle DHCP the same as a router or server so it never gets an IP assignment. Nope, DHCP on ICS works just fine. Your skepticism prompted me to give it a shot. The DVP received an IP address from my Windows 7 laptop without any issues. It t...

Re: Apartment Community WIFi

I have not tried this, but you should be able to have your PC or laptop share its wireless connection through the LAN port. Here are Microsoft's instructions on how to configure this type of setup: Windows XP Windows 7/Vista Granted it is not the most convenient (potential) solution, but it might en...

Re: Roku Locks Me out Of Netflix!!!

No! It is Roku! All this crap started with the "New Netflix Interface"! Nope, Netflix is the one responsible for this particular problem. They have been dinking around with some of their web services over the past several weeks, which has caused some of the problems. Unfortunately Roku ha...

Re: The whole Parental control thing....

You aren't upset and complaining that prices are going to go up because Netflix developed software for game consoles and is giving the CDs away for free. Well, it certainly cost money to do that and our prices didn't go up. There is no reason to think it would be different for parental controls. So...

Re: Post Feedback on New Netflix Interface Here

I love the recently watched section, as it makes it really easy to resume a half-watched show from another day. This (like the parental control issue) is exactly why netflix really needs to implement sub-accounts or queue groups or something for watch instantly. E.g., "three year old", &q...

Re: Mystery Science Theater 3000 on instant watch!!

Time for another installment. Let's see what we have in this round... The Giant Gila Monster (Episode 402) The enlarged-creature-causing-death-and-destruction movies make for some of the best episodes, but this is a tough one to get through due to some extended gaps in the riffing. View with caution...

Re: Why do I have to power cycle my Roku DVP?

Are you sure you mean, "at boot"? Are you sure you mean "at power up"? If the player doesn't boot at power up, then you've got a dead player. The maximum available bandwidth is what it is, irrespective of who the video is being streamed from. Amazon may require a higher bandwidt...

The player should test at boot for the bandwidth to which content provider? Netflix? Amazon? MLB? Eroticvision.tv?
