Re: Security issue: CVE-2019-11479 -- Roku impacted?

Wireless private vlan mode assumes everyone is playing by the rules.  It doesn't stop a tools like kismet from sniffing the traffic to get the source and destination IP address and the TCP sequence number, other tools can allow injection of packets directly or using the information to issue masquera...

Security issue: CVE-2019-11479 -- Roku impacted?

Netflix has reported four different vulnerabilities with Linux system/devices which have the TCP Selective ACKnowledgement (SACK) feature enabled.  Because SACK is generally accepted as improving network performance, it is enabled by default unless a specific vendor of a device chooses to disable it...

Re: No picture on TV after update on set up

If you are getting the boot screen then it is unlikely to be the HDMI cables that are causing the issue. Try factory resetting the Roku.  It might be that the Roku is attempting to issue a 1080 picture to a TV only capable of 720. If you could give what model of Roku and what manufacturer and models...

Re: Roku 2 XD... time to upgrade?

oK,  here we go again, how do you watch cable channels with Roku? I keep reading these posts, makes no sense, please explain, thanks! Ro ku is designed to play video over internet protocol, not to connect directly to cable coax. There are a couple ways to accomplish getting video streaming of the c...

Re: Close Caption

Both The Archive and Thrillgore seem to have had development of the Roku channel code contracted out to a company called dotstudioPRO.  My guess is both are sharing reused code and therefore you are seeing the same bugs or "features" in both.  Roku OS will always honor the channel's code o...

Re: Roku 4620X does not show 5.1 audio options for any channel

Out of curiosity, how is your HDMI cabled? Configuration 1: Roku HDMI --> Pioneer HDMI in Pioneer HDMI out --> TV HDMI in Configuration 2: Roku HDMI -> TV HDMI in TV HDMI ARC (Audio Return Channel) Out -> Pioneer HDMI in If you are using Configuration 2 with a 1080P TV then I would recommend trying ...

Re: ISP out of service?

You've tried the Roku Media Player channel / app on the Roku correct? Yes actually, my RMP success was limited to MP3 What video/audio codecs and container format are the videos you have been trying to play?  If you play the video in VLC, can you go in the menu to Tools -> Codec Information and the...

Re: ISP out of service?

I think Roku tries to ping whatever DNS server as the final step. So if you have a local DNS server, I think you can use Roku locally w/o an ISP. Roku's primary function is Internet Streaming, not local streaming. Considering the first channel it ever had was Netflix, then not long after Amazon and...

Re: ISP out of service?

Is the ROKU capable of any operational feature functions if the ISP service is unavailalbe?  Please point me to a listing. It is kind of hard to fully answer this question because the majority of what a high level user of a Roku would consider "operational features" aren't really provided...

Re: Roku 2 XD... time to upgrade?

Thread hijacked. Out of courtesy to the OP, can a mod please move all these irrelevant posts to another thread? Or the garbage can? Given how circular the conversation is getting, I might agree with you.  Also, I mostly agree with your initial posts and think they are helpful.  But at this point, t...

Only one person actually read what I wrote apparently b/c he understood perfectly, others only read for the purpose of twisting everything around.  I've read the threads, there's similar tone in most. " I just tried this on my Ultra. I can change the name and location using the roku app on my ...

Sorry OP - trolls gonna troll. No, I just expect too much I guess.  I see this mentality every time I ask people who know almost nothing they try to fall back on this one. I'm sorry Chicken but your comment seems to simply an assertion with no details backing it. Pretty sure I did answer his questi...

Re: Roku 2 XD... time to upgrade?

The Roku 2 XD had 256 MB of RAM which translates to it using older versions of the channels.  It may also be possible some newer channels are not even available to install on the 2 XD.  This device also only supports the h.264 video codec. If you upgrade to the Streaming Stick+ (3810) or Roku Ultra ...

Re: Roku Premiere kills my router

So...looks like I am shopping for a new router. Any objections to the NETGEAR R6700 Nighthawk AC1750 ? I would recommend going for a price point you are willing to re-spend every 2 years.  The Netgear R6700 is currently going for $85 on Amazon and if getting two years for that price is fine with yo...
