Re: roksbox -Streaming Local Media Channel Available for Tes

Wanted to though in a quick feature request. I haven't found a good mac program to automatically generate all the .xml stuff for posters/title. However I was wondering how easy it would be to have the Roksbox program simply search for a *.jpg in the same directory as the .mp4 and use that as cover a...

Re: simplest way to stream from PC to Roku?

Chaneru is the simplest hands down. To convert use Handbrake (a free program), It lets you create a queue, so it is easy to have it convert multiple files while you are sleeping or at work. All I did in Handbrake is convert to MP4, changed one setting - on the video filters tab I put Decomb onto De...

Re: roksbox -Streaming Local Media Channel Available for Tes

Ha BBC DVD's are encoded with 29.whatever (makes sense, the euro standard). That's why they are all working, darn now I'll have to re-encode the rest.

Re: roksbox -Streaming Local Media Channel Available for Tes

Nevermind I have it too with the other DVD's. Are BBC dvd's enocded at a different frame rate? It's weird that Doctor Who is unaffected.

Re: roksbox -Streaming Local Media Channel Available for Tes

Yes, encoding at 29.97fps will clear up the rebuffering at roughly the one hour mark problem... Do folks think this is a Roku codec issue issue or is it a Roksbox issue? I don't have a huge problem using fixed framerates moving forward, but it'd be nice if I didn't have to think about it. :) Diffic...

Re: roksbox -Streaming Local Media Channel Available for Tes

I have set everything up, per the instructions. I was using Mongoose but it kept crashing, so I decided to go with Apache. I have checked and re-checked everything, but I can't get my photos or music to load. It was working with Mongoose, but Mongoose would crash repeatedly. Please help. BTW, what ...

Re: Roku Player now from $59, 1080p on the XR

For those inquiring about DNLA, it would be great to have. However in the meantime I've had great luck using RoksBox with a synology diskstation NAS. Basically if you have a computer that can run a webserver (or a NAS like the diskstation) Roksbox will work. It's not the prettiest, but it has played...

Re: roksbox -Streaming Local Media Channel Available for Tes

One last thing concerning handbrake. The "high-profile" encoding seems to work well for me with most DVD's (some DVD's of old BBC shows are weird and screw up with this) expect for the audio. You need to make sure you change the audio settings. If you have anything other than AC3 passthrou...

Re: roksbox -Streaming Local Media Channel Available for Tes

I'm on 10.5.8 so not sure if there are any differences if you are on 10.6 yet or not. Setting and structure on my Mac: Web Sharing is turned on. I have a folder named "media" with the "Sites" folder (Sites is located within your Home folder). I have placed a few test movies save...

Re: roksbox -Streaming Local Media Channel Available for Tes

I got this working on a synology diskstation (DS410) and thought I'd share my experience. Here is what needs done to get it to work: 1st the apache web server on the diskstation is set up by default with directory listing disabled. This needs to be changed so that Roksbox can parse the directory (un...

Re: Roksbox and Synology - I'm going nuts

Two things with the synology diskstation. 1st the apache web server is set up by default with directory listing disabled. This needs to be changed so that Roksbox can parse the directory (unless you are using the .xml method). Simply create a .htaccess file (unix line endings) in your web directory ...

Re: Roku vs Hulu Plus

They do have the USA shows on regular Hulu (I'm watching psych right now). However they only have the five latest episodes. It'll still be worth getting hulu plus as you'll need it to use a set top box (for example the ps3 app and probably future roku/boxee apps).

carol1124 I think you are correct to blame TWC. In fact, seeing as TWC has already admitted to blatant "packet shaping" (even in non-abusive users) it wouldn't surprise me if they are intentionally screwing with online video as well. Which is why everyone who is loving their Roku boxes sho...

TWC "packet shaping"

Reading the Roku forums it appears that most of the people reporting their boxes being awful have Time Warner Cable. Google "TWC traffic shaping" to get an idea of why you might be experiencing problems. Over the past year there have been reports of everyone from WoW players to users attem...
