Re: PlayOn is available in the official channel store

I developed one of the original PlayOn private channels (in parallel another dev was working directly with PlayOn developing a different private channel).   I was asked by a Roku representative to remove the channel based on the " concerns about the legal exposure it may create" for Roku. ...

Re: Plex DVR

Biggest challenge I see with this is that most of the recordings will be MPEG2 and roku boxes don't support that (unless that changed recently).    I know plex can transcode, but that is going to be alot of transcoding work for your plex server if you have multiple boxes streaming.    As opposed to...

Re: FCC Votes to "Unlock" the Cable Set Top Box

...Or Roku (and other companies) could start making all-on-one boxes and work to out-do each other on features. Hello: That would be awesome. An all-in-one Roku. Roku may have to consider this in the future if they want to stay relevant and compete with other companies. Bottom line, this will benef...

Re: Roku Has Raised New $45.5 Million Round of Funding

@Elijah_Baley You mentioned that Plex requires Beta testers to pay them for the privilege of beta testing their product. How is that possible? I think that Plex has a great product, but I have never heard of any beta testers being required to pay to test any company's future product. Plex offers th...

Re: Roku 1 configuring new Plex server

Are you logged into your account on your server? Go to the web interface, Settings -> Server -> General and sign in. I believe the current release version had a bug for server discover if the server and client are not logged in that has been fixed in the Plex Pass version. That version should (hopef...

Re: Millennials Reconnect the Cable Cord as Children Arrive

Bad choice- MY parents would never have done that! Better to teach your kids the power of voting with your dollars, and ask them to question why Nickelodeon shows just as many commercials as stations you get over the air for free, yet you have to PAY for it. In my case if I had kids, I'd also tell ...

Re: New NBC Roku Channel

Regardless of whether you like the content on NBC, this is a good move for consumers. Putting at least basic access (like what is availabe via the web) on OTT boxes for free is a step in the right direction. It provides more options and a smoother transition to cord cutting for those that don't/can'...

Re: Watching the same movie in 2 rooms

Did you just leave the movie on the pause screen on the first roku? Or did you exit back to the main Netflix screen? I think if you stay on the pause screen the player will just resume from where you paused, it doesn't ping the server for the latest playback position. If you go back to the main netf...

Re: Roku needs Dolby license for DD+

While I understand it is frustrating if your hardware does not support it, the simple fact is that most (all?) 5.1 hardware sold for the last few years supports DD+ via HDMI. So the segment of users that require DD+ decoding over optical is no longer growing. I can't imagine Roku extending much effo...

Re: Help me "cut the cord"

So I finally cancelled my TV service. So far the biggest negative is that I forgot to talk to my wife first. There were some tense moments when she realized we didn't have HGTV anymore. My antenna situation is not fully resolved yet. The good news is that today I tested that cheaper radio shack ante...

Re: Help me "cut the cord"

The TV Fool report is in my first post. I've actually looked at the mohu sky before b/c I like the look of it. What had me worried was that I searched on their site before (from the xbox tuner link) and it didn't even show the NY stations. Now they are shown on the link you provided. So I'm confused...

Re: Help me "cut the cord"

The locals only option is a possibility. But the issue I've seen in the past is that I'm grandfathered into a cheaper internet plan. So changing my TV service will cause my internet to get bumped up. Last I looked, that bump + a local plan would result in little to no savings. I'll have to double ch...

Help me "cut the cord"

So my 2 year contract with FIOS is up in June and I'd like to cut the cord. Problem is that I'm a fan of the NY Giants and I need to get NYC stations. Where I live I'm closer to Philly, but all of the pay TV companies in my area provide both NYC and Philly locals. The NYC transmitters are 51.7 miles...
