I sold mine a while back and I am making do with a Mac Mini and FrontRow. It is not perfect, but I am generally satisfied. As others have said, I am surprised that Roku+Mplay still stands out as one of the best media centers after all of this time. I do not think you will see better devices until th...

Home Media Client?

Any progress on using the HD2000 as a home media client? or are the components to support third party apps like Mplay not available yet? I see the network interface will not be available until Q3 2007 at the earliest.

I sold mine a while back thinking that I would get an Apple TV. I never bought one, however. They are not ready for prime time in my opinion. Perhaps if Apple starts offering an HD content via a rental model, then I would switch over to it. For now, I am using my Mac Mini with FrontRow. I probably s...

I believe that newer DVDs have introduced data errors that are ignored or handled by hardware DVD players, but which cause problems for the software used to RIP DVDs.

The roku setup app only allows you to configure SMB shares at this point. You need to telnet to the device and issue unix commands to mount an NFS share. These commands can be scripted and saved to a .roku file so that you can run them from the GUI. Search this forum for "NFS mount" and you will fin...

Did you unzip it? If not you will need to that first, then you should see the app icon. The Roku OS will scan the directory for apps, but it cannot access files inside a zip.

I am pretty sure it has to do with how the NSF export is configured. In order to get it to work, I had to pretty much leave it wide out. I never followed up on what settings have what affect once I got it working, however.

While far from perfect, I have had great success using Roku and MPlay to watch ripped DVDs and listen to Internet radio. I believe that there is a new driver for the Ximeta that was intended to address performance issues. Unfortunately, SMB shares can still be a bit flaky, but NSF mounts have worked...

It needs to be set to the mount point for the SMB share. So it should look something like the following.

-browsedir="/mnt/smb/Movies/shares"

If you telnet to the the roku, look under /usr/mnt to see where your share is mounted exactly.

New beta release?

It has been almost a month since the last release. Wondering if a new release is just around the corner?
