Re: Extra cost uPnP addon?

Hulu can be watched on a DLNA compatable player via PlayOn  . I looked into this, but it looked to me like PlayOn does not produce a Roku compatible video format. Even their iPhone HLS stream was not compatible. -JT This isn't entirely true. A playon app was created for the Roku as a priva...

Try using 2 channels of audio for your encodes ( mono or stereo ) - that's most likely the issue here.

Doesn't appear to make any difference...speaking of, I extracted the audio without reencoding as an .ac3 file and it can't play ac3?

Re: new official USB - loading, please wait

For instance, I have two MKV videos. Both have AVC (CABAC) video encoding, use AC-3 for audio and have the same FPS. video #1: (does not play) 480p at 1199 kbps (High@L3.1) 6 channel audio at 192kbps 8 reference frames file size approximately 1GB video #2 (plays fine) 1080p at 5158kbps (High@L4.1) 1...

new official USB - loading, please wait

I am slightly dissapointed with the new USB channel. I was hoping there would be an update from the beta. I find it difficult to find a video that will actually play correctly on it. I understand this is a codec issue (or it doesn't play avi)....but my question is... Will this channel be updated to ...

Re: Official USB Channel?

Just installed it an hour or so ago. Performance of playon has been very spotty for me...not good enough to watch anything (repeated restarts of the stream) and the personal media option (in beta) doesn't appear to be working well either (I can see some thumbnails, but selecting an image thumbnail ...

Re: Official USB Channel?

See this article - http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/29/roku-disallows-playon-cites-possibility-of-legal-exposure/ Well now, that makes no sense. I like the word "possibility". What part of Playon is illegal? Answer: nothing. Why is providing a channel to access a legal program "illega...

Re: Official USB Channel?

Get Playon from http://www.playon.tv and then get the playon private channel for Roku. It's simple to configure Playon to look for video files in a certain location(s) on your computer or network. The Roku Playon channel is uPnP. Streams videos with no problem. Yes, Playon requires a subscription, b...

Re: Official USB Channel?

I'm looking for something that "just works"- instead of having to fuss with making sure everything is set just right.. Not going to happen. That's how technology advances. Features are added over time. Spend $500-$1000 and get a computer then. Don't forget that you have to setup a remote ...

Hi, thanks.

When an update is created, how do we get it? Is it automatic or do we have to remove and re-add?

Re: OT - Slingbox Sling Catcher.

Ok, well, I've heard the same thing about upnp, playing video files from usb and the like. Both of which were said to not be possible.

If sling.com was accessible, it would really hurt hulu plus. The pressure is not on the developers, it's on the decision makers.

Re: OT - Slingbox Sling Catcher.

I'm not wondering about the creation of a web browser.

There are apps created that tap into live streams from other web sites that use flash.

I think there is pressure to not do it.

Re: OT - Slingbox Sling Catcher.

I don't understand why a Roku app couldn't be created to access the sling.com website. sling.com is very similar to hulu.com as far as content goes, but it also has a web interface (flash based) to access your sling box. You don't need to "decode" the "encrypted" stream. Just acc...
