Re: Roku TCL 55” to older Onkyo Av receiver.

It is true that optical is mostly settings-free, setup wise.  From your description you have at least verified that the optical input on your receiver is working when you were using your cable box.  Are you using the same optical cable as you had previously connected from the cable box?  Have you tr...

Re: Roku TCL 55” to older Onkyo Av receiver.

Optical out from TCL television to optical in on receiver is usually more reliable and less problematic than ARC anyways.  Not sure why an optical connection to your receiver is not working, especially if you had it working before with cable box.  Was cable box connected to receiver directly with op...

Re: ROKU + AVR + ARC/CEC = Huge headache

You are somewhat mixing CEC and ARC.  CEC is for component control, ARC is for sending sound FROM your television TO your receiver, not FROM your receiver TO your television. Since your Roku stick is plugged into the 'Cable' HDMI input on your Denon receiver, ARC is not in the picture for your contr...

Re: Netflix only streaming in stereo

In Netflix, the 5.1 option only shows if the current viewing device (Roku) is detected as supporting 5.1.  So it appears your current Roku-soundbar setup is not currently configured to support Netflix's DD+.  May want to re-check and try to reconfigure, if your soundbar can be supported for it.  Try...

Re: Roku TV - No Option/Setting to Use Optical Audio?

Kinda tongue in cheek, but there's nothing much in optical audio instructions because there's nothing much to do to make it work.  In TCL settings, whether TV speakers are set to on or off makes no difference since TV is always outputting a signal from its optical output port.  Things to recheck are...

Re: Amazon the only app not working properly?

Most likely is that the problem is in the content provider's (Amazon) application or content delivery network rather than in the streaming hardware being used.  I see these messages occasionally in the Amazon application on a Panasonic smart TV with a wired Ethernet connection to a 100Mbps service p...

Re: How to connect a Roku TV to a receiver using HDMI cable

@dlovegrove: It may be that your TV does not pass analog audio out from the Roku connected to one of the TV's HDMI inputs.  Have you tried one of the other analog inputs on your receiver (DVD, CD) and selecting that as the input source? Otherwise, certainly replacing either the television or the rec...

Re: How to connect a Roku TV to a receiver using HDMI cable

@dlovegrove: Your HTR-6230 receiver from the manual page 11 (page 15 in the pdf) predates sending audio through any of its HDMI inputs and output through the receiver's connected speakers.  According to this manual, if you want to hear sound from your TV through the receiver's speakers (OR if you wa...

Re: How to connect a Roku TV to a receiver using HDMI cable

@lancego: You could try 'Search for CEC devices', or disable then re-enable ARC within the TV's Settings menu.  Sometimes either of these will 'wake up' the receiver to picking up the TV's sound, without the necessity for power cycling of the TV and/or the receiver.

Re: How to connect a Roku TV to a receiver using HDMI cable

@Not_very_fast:  1) If you have connected the digital audio cable from the TV to the receiver DTV/CBL optical input jack, after turning on TV and receiver, are you selecting DTV/CBL as input source button on the remote control to connect to that digital audio input on the receiver?  2) If that doesn...

Re: How to connect a Roku TV to a receiver using HDMI cable

@Not_very_fast: If the first pdf manual is the one for your RX-V365 receiver, from the manual page 11 (page 15 in the pdf), that receiver predates sending audio through any of its HDMI inputs and output through the receiver's connected speakers.  So there is no ARC capability.  According to this man...

Re: TCL 55S517 Included Remote Upgrade Question

The RC280 remote that I purchased on eBay does have a mute button; only difference from the original TCL remote is in a couple of the four preprogrammed application buttons like Vudu, RDIO, etc.  There may be different models for sale that lack the mute button, as stated in the previous post. In any...

Re: Netflix hangs @ 25%

I have seen this happen multiple times on multiple devices besides a Roku device.  It's not the devices; it's that the Netflix CDNs are really busy at that moment.  Sometimes just exiting the Netflix application on the device and re-entering it will get you past the 25% hung point without a device r...

Re: TCL 55S517 Included Remote Upgrade Question

You may have to do some investigation on your TCL 55S517.  I have a TCL 55P605 which did not ship with an enhanced remote ; therefore the enhanced functions for pairing were hidden.  I paired the enhanced voice remote from a Roku 3 with my TCL 55P605.  You have to enable full UI support for the enh...
