tivo vs. roku

here's a question. i'm playing devil's advocate here because i actually do have both the roku player and a tivo connected to netflix and amazon. so the question is this: if you already have your tivo connected to netflix and amazon, what are the advantages of buying yet another device? i did so beca...

this is just ridiculous. movie studios decide when to release dvds, not amazon, not netflix. they both have access at the same time. for streaming, the only possible reason that amazon is the first to offer on a new movie is that they pay the movie studio enough money to stream on a per view basis. ...

i know that recently, everyone with a hd tivo got an update that allows them to use the same netflix service. i have it myself. since there are so many more hd tivo users than netflix box owners (i'm speculating here), the netflix servers may be overloaded.

to my understanding, the netflix box outputs on all ports simultaneously. so you don't need to reconfigure on that front. however, depending on the aspect ratios of the different tvs you have, you might want to change that on the netflix box to fit the tv it's connected to. otherwise, you end up wit...

or you could do it the old-school way by using an old fashion light timer that has a dial with a 24 hour clock for when to turn on and when to turn off. plug that into your wall or power strip and then plug the roku into that. as i understand it, there's no way to completely dim the m2000 when there...

so the macrovision technology is something placed into the vcr and not the netflix player...correct? because how would it know the difference between being connected to a vcr or directly into a tv. there's no two-way communication along a composite video cable, is there? just curious. i've given up ...

default name of external usb drive on mss+

hi, i just got around to attaching an external usb drive to my maxtor storage plus. previously my music resides in the Public folder of the internal drive. according to the firefly config page, the path looks like this: /shares/mss-hdd/Public/media/music i decided that i want the music to reside on ...

..and everyone who already has the netflix player realizes that if roku does decide to add a power switch, that it will in no way affect existing units, right? That's not necessarily true. The RNP is essentially a computer; most modern computers can be completely powered off via software. Roku coul...

my brother wanted to borrow it to see if he wanted one for himself. he has an apple time capsule and the np is using a wireless connection. i hooked it up for him a couple days ago and when i checked on it today, i also found the blinking light. the np never successfully connected even to the very f...

don't know what's up with fedex. i had it delivered to my work since there's no one home to accept packages. i originally saw the delivery posted as the 6th. then they changed it to the 7th, a saturday. and of course, my work place isn't open on saturday. then i see that the delivery date changed on...

add the switch. you can choose to use it or not, whatever your view on energy consumption and wear-and-tear on the device is.

Counterpoint here... I was very pleased to see that it shipped in just one box. The trend towards double boxing everything is so wasteful (and unnecessary). 100% in agreement. and this device will save fuel. fewer trips to the video store and fewer deliveries required from the postal service. all i...

are there any heat issues that even come close to that of the hd1000? No, there shouldn't be any heat issues. The box is barely warm to the touch. Seconded...just warm to touch.
