Re: Occasional "audio not supported" error

Right. Should have thought of that. Probably should do something like that, to save the planet.

Roku guys? Can it be that only two of us have this issue? (Weirdly, I have three Sony tv's, all hooked up to Roku, and only one of them (the oldest) gives me trouble. Same Roku on other tvs works fine.)

Seriously? Because as far as I know, Roku is on all the time-- does this mean you leave it unplugged, and then when you want to watch, you turn on the tv and then plug in the Roku?

Re: Occasional "audio not supported" error

We have just started having this problem, after moving our roku player from a Toshiba tv to a sony. The roku player has worked without a hiccup for two years, and now that we're attached to the sony, it loses audio pretty regularly. We reboot a couple times and switch the hdmi input, and it comes ba...

Re: Handbrake Best Practices Thread

True, I haven't posted since I got everything figured out-- happy to report that I haven't had to think about it at all since I got things working, which means that things are working! Everything I know I posted in this thread. The .txt configuration files are available tivocommunity forum. If you g...

Re: Handbrake Best Practices Thread

No, I haven't had those issues. And I happen to have ripped all the HP movies my kids own, so I suspect I would have heard and/or noticed. I don't know enough about any of this, unfortunately, to offer solutions, except to say that, in spite of 99.9% successful outcomes with the above settings, I st...

Re: Signed up for Hulu Plus, where do I connect to my player

Is there an app that will stream what's on your PC? Private channels: Roksbox and MyMedia. Channels: Chaneru. There are others, I can't think of off the top of my head. If you search this forum each of the channels has an ongoing thread, with lots of helpful information about how the streaming/enco...

Re: Streaming from local pc

I have been successfully streaming from both my pc and a NAS. In the past I used Tivo to share home media, and find that Roku (after some investment in setting it up) is much better-- more intuitive, better quality images, more flexibility. I am just loving it. Check out the Roksbox and MyMedia thre...

Handbrake Best Practices Thread

Recently I have begun streaming home media content (home movies, recorded Tivo episodes and DVDs from our family collection) over our Roku boxes, using the Roksbox application and KMTTG, a batch processing application written for transcoding Tivo content. As anybody who has tried this knows, there a...

Re: roksbox -Streaming Local Media Channel Available for Tes

Roksbox uses the built in Roku video player to play its videos, just like every other Roku streaming video application. So any problems or challenges that occur in Roksbox are a result of the Roku player, not something unique to Roksbox. Very good to know. It's what I assumed. Thanks. :) It would b...

Re: roksbox -Streaming Local Media Channel Available for Tes

Using Apocolypse Now as a test, this is what I see as the difference between "Anamorphic: Strict" and "Anamorphic: None": Strict: -i "V:\Apocolypse Now - Redux Disc 1.m4v" -t 1 -c 1 -o "v:\Apocolypse Now - Redux Disc 1-1.m4v" -f mp4 --strict-anamorphic -e x26...

Re: roksbox -Streaming Local Media Channel Available for Tes

1. 29.97 seems to work with video over an hour in length to prevent rebuffering (I don't know why) 2. I use 640 wide because it works perfectly on 4x3 screens and it is exactly a 2x upscale for 720p so the tv or the roku will not be likely to screw up the upscale. I had some problems with weird sca...

Very helpful, thanks, and it clarifies the disappearing rebuffering problem: all my recent encodes were less than an hour.I look forward to answers 2 and 3. :)

Re: roksbox -Streaming Local Media Channel Available for Tes

I spent about 12 hours this past weekend trying to find the magic sauce for encoding videos in Handbrake. Here are my results: Premise : I have .mpg (full mpeg2 dvd rips) and .avi (mp4) with 5.1ac3 audio in most cases. the settings that work best for me and seem to reproduce the proper frame withou...

Re: roksbox -Streaming Local Media Channel Available for Tes

Did you re-encode the video with a different encoding program? What are your settings? You should be encoding the video with the h.264 codec at or below 3.5mbs I am using BeyondTV's ShowSqueeze functionality to compress to 3160 Kbps with h.264. When I tried to redo one just now, I used 2692 Kbps, b...
