Re: Possible To Activate Roku 3 through PC With No TV?

Yes, you can use a computer monitor, IF it has a HDMI and has HDCP support. If you just want to activate a Roku, the HDCP may not be needed. Most commercial channels probably require HDCP, (High Definition Copy Protection).

I use an 8 year old 24" ViewSonic 1080p monitor with one of my Rokus.

Re: Are you annoyed with Netflix channel changes?

After using the new Netflix inteface for more than 9 weeks, I can still say it's just as annoying as when the new interface was initially released. The auto-play of the previews is just as distracting and I end up not being able to read the descriptions easily. This has prompted me to deal with some...

... I guess for the future, I should start learning about NAS devices and running media servers on them because eventually I want to rip all my movie discs and have them ready to stream. 1st world problems for sure. ... Re: Are you annoyed with Netflix channel changes?

... The standard Roku look-and-feel Netflix UI remains on Roku 2 XS and XD which doesn't have these auto-start, auto-next-episode/post-play and previews features which some people here don't like in the newer common Netflix UI . ... Thank you for reminding me. I have 2 older Rokus, a HD XR, (which ...

Re: Roku Automatically Adds Unwanted Pay Channels

Wow, that's annoying. I guess I am glad I have no screen saver setup.
But, kudos to Roku. There are easy fixes, (PIN), and work around, (clock
screen saver or none).

Re: Are you annoyed with Netflix channel changes?

Yes, I am one of those people who think I should get better display from Netflix. That said, I am quite happy with something between full SD, (Standard Def), and 720p. Meaning a low bandwidth SD stream is just too fuzzy to watch. If I remember correctly, their used to be 4 SD streams, 2 of 720p, and...

Re: Are you annoyed with Amazon channel changes?

Yet another bug. I'll report it tomorrow. When freezing a video on Amazon, switching inputs to something else, then back to the Roku, I get HDCP errors. Never got them before. Can't even get rid of the problem without exiting the video, and in some cases, the Amazon channel. Does not happen all the ...

Re: Are you annoyed with Netflix channel changes?

I may have 1Gbps Google fiber, but the connection from Google to Netflix is listed as about 36Mbps. No need to eat that up, because I already have enough drops below SD, down to fuzzy SD, (noticably below DVD quality, and hard on the eyes). I should get Full HD all the time for videos that have it....

Plus, products that have 5GHz WiFi support, tend to advertise it, since it's a selling point.

Re: Make sure you contact Roku about problems with a new device a MONTH or more after it happens

It almost sounds like your Roku was used in a Beta test. Roku development can select specific users, (or specific Rokus), to have certain firmware loaded. I don't know much about it, since I've never signed up for Beta testing for my Rokus. Contact them again, and be specific. It's likely you won't...

Do you use Netflix?

They started doing auto play of previews, in addition to auto play of videos.
The post auto play next can be disabled through the Netflix web site.

Re: Are you annoyed with Amazon channel changes?

Found another annoyance with the new Amazon channel. Stopping a video, (not pause), then starting to play it later, does not resume close to where it stopped. Litterally 1 to 2 minutes before I stopped. With the clumsy fast forward, (since they removed the normal forward), I can't get to the locatio...

Re: Roku Express does not work with 5GHz wireless

If you read the 802.11n standard, 5GHz is optional;

Wikipedia 802.11n info

Thus, a product that states 802.11n compliance can very well be 2.4GHz only.
