I still can't use the PB to watch video - the black level is all wrong. Black on JPGs comes out as black on my ISF calibrated plasma, but when playing video all black appears as washed out pale grey.

Any clues?

Thanks,

FYI, when the slimserver service fell over, this is what it left behind: The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( Application ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able t...

Killer app!

This is just excellent. At last I can play my music collection easily for.... ... about 10 minutes, after which the slimserver service kills my win2k3 server :( With a bit of reliability built in (I assumer slimRoku is asking something that kills slimserver), I'll even go to my PayPal account!! Can'...

At a command prompt, type: ipconfig /all > c:\ipc.txt Do this for the server and for a workstation. PM me the content of the files. Also, at the command prompt, type nslookup set type=ns server 198.41.0.4 .. and make sure you get something like this: Server: a.root-servers.net Address: 198.41.0.4 (r...

Video is via VGA.

Roku VGA -> Iscan HD+ (bypass mode) -> Panasonic 42PHD7.

Plasma is ISF calibrated, and other sources (Philips 963SA/SDI and Topfield) look fantastic.

Found this thread while trying to sort out this problem.

For me, blacks are fine with JPG's. But video is a grey mess with poor contrast. Anyone else?

OK, You don't need to do anything to the router at all, other than make sure any DHCP function (for the internal network) is disabled. The router has an external IP address, which is dynamic. Ignore this. It also has an internal address (something like 192.168.1.1) which you put into your web browse...

PJW, I am playing HD material, so feeding 480i would defeat the object of having a HD player wouldn't it?? Mine is a commercial model (42PHD7), so am feeding it by the VGA connector. I cannot use the Iscan to scale to the Roku signal, since it will only scale HD stuff coming in via the DVI port (and...

My problem is that I would like to feed the Panasonic native res and bypass the scaler. The quality difference is significant. When I send VGA 1024x768, this is a 4:3 mode. So although the image fills the screen, all pictures displayed by the Roku are stretched width-wise. 720p is a 16:9 mode, so th...

Don, I know the problem, but my nice scaler (Iscan HD+) sends a lovely 1024*768 image that's designed for 16:9 displays. So it's "incorrectly" strectched to match the odd Panasonic shape. Was just hoping the Roku could do the same... Sadly the Iscan will not process HD images via component or VGA (j...

I'm not suggesting using the server as a router!! The router stays as is, and the dynamic ip address stays the problem of the router and your isp. DNS is a bit confusing, but basically your internal network needs a method of resolving computer names from ip's (and vice versa). The best way to do thi...

If the Roku cannot resolve the Win2k box name, then I would start with DNS... What I do is: Disable DHCP on any router. Enable DHCP on the server. Tell DHCP to tell clients to use the server ip as the DNS address. Make sure on the server's nework card that it has a fixed ip address and that it looks...

I too am in the UK with a 1024x768 Panny (42PHD7). I had to zero my picture size settings first (picture pos/size button on remote) - because the panny remembers different settings for different frequencies. I, though, hate using 1024x768 because Roku have decided that this mode should be 4:3 only (...
