Re: No show pictures in apps

Might as well pile on... I also have a Roku 2 (2720X) and the Netflix thumbnails disappear quite often.  Only fix seems to be to reboot the Roku, but that's not acceptable.

Re: Dear GOD Roku, why no local streaming?

Roku has had experience with trying to provide local streaming... the Soundbridge network music player. The Soundbridge line was originally intended to use iTunes as the local server, and AFAIK it is the only non-Apple device that is licensed to do so. They also supported the development of an open-...

Re: More Commercials on Roku Channels?

if it weren't for advertising, how would you know about Netflix or the Roku? Interesting question! I don't recall ever seeing a commercial advertisement for Roku. Has Roku ever made an ad? I came to the Roku Soundbridge some six years ago when I was on the SomaFM web site and read about it in a for...

Re: Are Roku boxes IPv6 compatible?

I kinda like NAT. I like port forwarding since I can direct service requests by port number to any host on my LAN. I like having only my one static IP address exposed to the public Internet. Are there any concerns about an ISP, or anybody else, knowing that people are running dozens of devices behin...

Re: USB Media Browser

According to the channel's developer, "USB devices with VFAT, NTFS, HFS, and HFS Plus file systems are supported. HFS and HFS Plus are read only." Interesting... what can the USB Media Browser channel do if it's able to write to the USB drive? Also, it seems kind of weird that a Linux-bas...

Re: Can new Roku replace Soundbridge

Roku had a special licensing deal with Apple that allowed the Soundbridge to stream DAAP from iTunes. I don't think they have that deal with the video streamers. There are some still some options for streaming audio locally to the Roku video streaming boxes, just not through iTunes. I use MyMedia fo...

Re: Everything is letterboxed on my SD TV

Thanks for the opinions. I'm not so concerned about possible differences in PQ in SD streams between a CRT and LCD of the same physical size; I assume it's about the same. Just wondering if an SD stream looks acceptable when blown up to 40 inches or more on an LCD. Seem like most people are happy wi...

Re: Everything is letterboxed on my SD TV

With my Sony 36 inch the letter boxing is livable. I purchased a new 27 inch Sony in 1994 and I live with the letter boxing as well. This TV just won't die, and with no room for a 2nd TV, I'm reluctant to have perfectly functioning hardware end up leaching toxic substances into a dump in a 3rd worl...

Re: Re:

Hopefully "Tivoization" will come to an end, and I would hope that Roku will continue to develop hardware, while allowing users to freely modify the software on their Roku devices. I personally would love to modify/customize my Roku device, and it would be nice if Roku would make the sour...

Re: Facebook Channel

Who is "fashnek" and how do we know that what he or she has thrown together isn't some sort of phishing scam? Can someone at Roku confirm this fix or fashnek him or herself reply to this? 2 posts from this user only about this fix makes me skeptical. I am a little paranoid myself given th...

Re: 3 Rokus, all getting same DHCP assignments

Right -- I've confirmed that all of the Rokus have separate serials and MAC addresses -- but for whatever reason, they're all getting the same .103 assignment from the Time Capsule router. We've rebooted the router, no effect. When we put one of the Rokus on an Ethernet wire, same thing. Unfortunat...

Re: Dockstar setup for MyMedia

I finally got around to putting the cover back on my Dockstar and trying to start the server at boot up. I'm not having much luck. It doesn't look like anything in /opt/etc/init.d actually gets executed. There's no rcS script anywhere or any rc.1 script. Dang. That's really one of the problems with...

Re: My Media - Your Music and Video on the Roku DVP

Does it not work currently? I believe people have reported success in the past with setting their music directory to something like: \\myserver\share\music I think that works, but I'm still using a NAS (old Linksys NSLU2) itself to run the pre-release MyMedia server and serve up content on the atta...

Re: My Media - Your Music and Video on the Roku DVP

The performance isn't horrible on the 266 MHz ARM, just slower than I want to wait :) I threw 25 moderately sized snapshots into the pictures folder. These were 3 - 4 MB jpegs, 2448 x 3264 pixels. It takes about 20 seconds to bring up the thumbnails, 30 seconds for each individual photo, and about 1...
