Re: On the fly transcoding -- is it possible

Note that when lining up segments in the playlist, the timestamps must lineup.... So it will not work in general to take arbitrary files and add them to an .m3u8 file, expecting them to play smoothly without buffering. If those files are run through some sort of post-processing that makes the pts t...

Re: On the fly transcoding -- is it possible

Here's the m3u8 file (which as I said is simply a renamed m3u file that is autogenerated by MediaTomb). #EXTM3U #EXTINF:2313,World_Cup_Soccer_-_2010-06-14_Group_Stage-_Italy_vs._Paraguay.mpg http://192.168.0.159:49152/content/media/object_id/16129/res_id/none/pr_name/vlcmpeg/tr/1 For what it's worth...

On the fly transcoding -- is it possible

So I'm sure that I'm not alone in the fact that anything I record off the air starts life as an mpeg-ts/mpeg2 file. I would love the ability to transcode that on the fly into something that the Roku could play, rather than having to wait for the recording to end, then transcode to an h264/mp4 file. ...

Re: My Media - Your Music and Video on the Roku DVP

The advantage I was thinking that mediatomb/djmount would give is an automated method of choosing an arbitrary file and invoking vlc as the HLS transcoder. If you've worked out a trick to do that already from within MyMedia, then I agree that they become extraneous to the whole arrangement. I'm in t...

Re: My Media - Your Music and Video on the Roku DVP

Mediatomb ( http://mediatomb.cc/ ) already does on-demand transcoding of mpg files and lets you specify the script you want for transcoding -- including the use of VLC (or ffmpeg, or anything else you want). Coupled with djmount ( http://djmount.sourceforge.net/ ) you can get a directory populated w...

Re: My Media - Your Music and Video on the Roku DVP

Don't really know anything about HLS. I've seen that there's a plugin for VLC (which I gather would first require me to recompile VLC), but I haven't started playing w/it, because I don't have a sense of what the next step would be.

Re: My Media - Your Music and Video on the Roku DVP

Just wondering, now that the Roku supports HTTP live streaming, if there was anyway to do on-the-fly transcoding for watching via the Roku. I've got a headless Ubuntu box that is currently running mythtv (for recording OTA content) and Mediatomb (better than mythtv's built-in UPnP server, because am...

Re: Wii Streaming Disc being delivered 3/26

I was just wondering if there was any chance that someone could hack the code on Netflix/Wii disc so that the Wii could read data from a MyMedia channel. That would substantially increase the usefulness of my Wii for watching video since I have a bunch of videos I've recorded on a Mythbuntu box (and...
