I use a PC with XP as a server and have had success with ORB, WMP11 and Nero 7 without having to convert any files. WMP11 has some issues (i.e. staying connected, etc) with video files but Nero Media Home is great for streaming .vob files which should work with MPEG-2. Only problem with .vob files i...

PS3

Most recent PS3 update turns console into a media player which works OK with WMP 11 and great with Nero Media Home. Just need to merge each burned dvd's numerous .vob's into 1 file to have uninterupted play.

I just bought the PS3 and loaded Yellow Dog Linux on it. Don't know anything much about linux so have been struggling with getting video (mplayer) to work. Hope Sony and Terra Solutions (YDL) get cracking on some improvements to YDL or better yet The Endless does some programming for his PS3.

Recent Problem DVD rips

Two of my recent DVD purchases that I've ripped using DVD decypter for use in MPLAY take forever to start. What happens .... I start the file but it has 2-5 minutes of a black blank screen with no sound. If I try to fast forward it almost becomes unresponsive but eventually catches up. Is it somethi...

Re: Firefly on a LAN Server

I don't see anyone on teh intarweb that has disassembled it to get a parts lists. It would be interesting to see what it's made of -- that would give a good idea of how feasible it would be to run a custom distro on it. Its simple to take apart let me know if you would like me to list the parts?

I have a SB500 and SB1000 and both will not work (constant beuffering and skipping) WMC2 either wired or wirelessly however Twonky, iTunes and Slimserver work flawlessly either wirelessly or wired. May want to give them a try before selling.

how do the connectors differ? Or did you only hook up 4 wires? That was really my question, do the connectors differ? I used cat5 rated connectors with all 8 wires hooked up. I agree, we have lots of time. I guess when I rewire I can use the old wire (cat5e) to gently pull the cat 6 into place.

Switch

I just bought a 5 port 10/100 Linksys switch for $10 at Radio Shack and a 8 port 10/100 Linksys switch for $32 (buy.com). Both are so simple to hook up and work great. I do not have a need yet for streaming multiple HD so I can wait for gbit switch to come down in price. Question - I ran cat5e all o...
